Willie C. Green Passes Wednesday; Funeral is Friday
Willie C. Green, 66, of Silver Creek Rt. 1, died in a local hospital at 11:50
p.m. Wednesday. He had been in declining health for the past five years, his
condition becoming serious three weeks ago.
Mr. Green was born in Rome, October 17, 1890, son of the late Henry J. and Sally
Tolbert Green and had made his home here his entire life. He was a well known cattle
dealer and was a member of the Fifth Ave. Baptist Church.
Survivors include the widow, the former Miss Leila Burnes, one daughter, Mrs.
Hugh Don McGhee, Rome; five sons, Varnell, Hoyt, Herman and Garlan Green, all of
Rome and James Henry Green of Atlanta, six sisters, Mrs. Dewey Wilkerson, Rome Rt.
2, Mrs. H. H. Wallace, Rome, Mrs. Guy Fuller and Mrs. John McGinnis, both of Rome
Rt. 4, Mrs. Abner Bufftington, Rome Rte. 1 and Mrs. Maggie Flippin, Marietta.
Fifteen grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Jennings Funeral
Home with the Rev. W. F. Conn officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial
Gardens.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home until time for services and six
nephews will serve as pall bearers. They are Charlie Flippin, Rufus McCary, Tim and
Reuben Buffington, Richard Cordle and E. Evans Burnes.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 until 9 o'clock tonight.
