William J. Wilson, 70, Dies; Funeral Today
William Jasper Wilson, 70, died at his residence on the Floyd Springs Road,
Armuchee, Rt. 1, at 7 a.m. Sunday. He had been in declining health for several years,
his condition becoming serious one week ago.
Mr. Wilson was born in Alabama, July 15, 1893, son of the late William Henry and
Beulah King Wilson and had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County. He
was a retired farmer, a member and deacon of the New Armuchee Baptist Church. His
wife, Mrs. Essie Davis Wilson, died Sept. 2, 1957.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Vivian Landers, Armuchee Rte. 1, one
step-daughter, Mrs. Georgia Alred of Rome; one step-son, Talmadge Davis of Rome Rte.
1, three sisters, Mrs. Grace Davis of Cohutta, Mrs. Charlcie Yarbrough and Mrs.
Jewel Blalock of Rome; two brothers, Lester Wilson of Rome and Uclaugh Wilson of
Indiana; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today in the New Armuchee Baptist Church
with the pastor, the Rev. E. S. Morris, officiating. Interment was in Sand Springs
Cemetery, Rome Rte. 1.
Pallbearers included Hugh Grigsby, John Hicks, H.E. Miller, Talmadge Davis,
Harold Lindsey and B. G. Morton. Members of the Board of Deacons were honorary
pallbearers. Jennings Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
