Wm. D. New Dies; Funeral at Baptist Church Friday P.M.

The many friends of W. D. New, aged and well-known citizen of Lindale, are grieved t learn of his death, which occurred Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. at his home in North Lindale, after a short illness.
While Mr. New's latest illness had been of but few days' duration, he had not been in good health since October 1932, after he had been almost mortally injured when run down by an automobile near his home one dark night in North Lindale.
Following his injury at that time he lingered between life and death for several weeks, his advanced age preventing quick recovery. He had not been able since to do manual labor, but had engaged in the light task of peddling.
Mr. New had been a resident of Lindale for 35 years, having reared his family here, and was preceded in death by his wife 13 years ago. For many years he was employed by the Lindale mills and was for some time village carpenter foreman.
He had long been a member of the local lodge of Odd Fellows and that of Oostanaula tribe of Red men, having served both of these fraternities as their presiding officer.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Oscar M. Jones, 319 Grove Avenue, Lindale; Mrs. Pearl Hurt, Ensley, Ala., Miss Lizzie New with whom he lived in North Lindale, 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m., from the Lindale Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. L. M. Lyda, pastor of the church, and the Rev. J. H. Johnson. Burial will be with honors of the Red Men's fraternity in the Lindale cemetery.
The following friends will act as pallbearers: J. G. Welch, H. M. Autry, Sr., M. C. Bannister, Crowley Steadham, Tom Hopgood and Arthur Butler. The Pepperell quartet will render the music, and the following will act as flower girls; Misses Grace, Ruth and Lillie Fulton, Mildred and Bertha Lemming, Mary Hendrix, Martha Battson and Syble Davis.
The body is at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O. M. Jones at 319 Grove Avenue.
