This about getting complaints. We don't mind corrections, but we really hate nasty complaints.

It is a job to read old handwriting. All the records I have seen before 1900 were handwritten except for old newspapers and forms that were printed to be filled out "with handwritten entries". As a matter of fact when I took census in 1980 and 1990, we still filled in the forms by hand. On top of that, the people who filled out the forms didn't have the best handwriting.

You have to do the best you can and anyone who makes the effort deserves a round of applause. For an example see a clipping from the 1920 census.  EXAMPLE.

Some of the worst mistakes I made are embarassing. For example
on the 1840 Strowder Brains - Strowder B rains  or Strowder B. Rains
the last is correct and to kiss it and make it better, I will tell you that he is buried at Hightower Cemetery in Cherokee County, not too far from the Forsyth County line.
on the 1870  Census Little instead of Settle.

In my cemetery book, I buried Thomas W. Hunt as of 9 May 1862 and indexed him in the 1870 census (which would be a neat trick).  When I realized, I went back to Bethel to look and guess what, I copied it right. Someone carved it wrong. Don Shadburn included a photo of the tombstone in his book Blood Kin on page 132. It clearly shows the reading as what I put in my Cemetery Book. Thank you Don.

So please send your corrections and we will note them and appreciate them and correct where we can.

If you want to send a flaming tirade of how stupid I am, go ahead if it will make you feel better, but be prepared to back it up with a beautiful example of your glowing perfect work of the same magnitude and maybe.....consider donating it to this page.

One last comment. I had a "sweet" email the other day compaining that they got too many emails from one of the genconnect boards (4)  and they had removed their name. Good!! If you can't handle emails just read it online.  Isn't it great to have an option?

Also, if you write, put something in the subject line that gives me a clue .. Hi..Hello..Hey there..   usually get deleted unopen because they usually are invites to porn sites.
To make a correction to the page please tell me what page
and to ask about your grandpa, a name would be nice --- a name, approximate birth date and a location would be nicer.

Have many nice days.
