Philip J. Kesler

    Philip J. Kesler was the son of David Kesler and Elizabeth Arminda Selman. He was born 1839 in Franklin Co.GA and married Jane Eliza Cromer Dec.6,1862 in Franklin Co. He was inlisted in the Tugalo Blues from Sep.23,1861 until he deserted in Dec. 1864.

    His wife, Jane, died giving birth to their daughter Eliza Jane on Jun.6,1866. Baby Jane's maternal grandparents George and Sarah Atkins Cromer kept the baby until Nov. 9, 1866 when the baby was given to the paternal grandparents David and Elizabeth Kesler.

    Philip soon remarried to Mary Jane Miller in 1867 and they had a daughter, Francis J. It is believed that Philip is buried in an unmarked grave at Otis Whitfield's cemetary. His daughter Eliza Jane went on to marry James Wilburn Verner Oct.12,1882 in Franklin Co. He was the son of George Edwin Verner and Anna Sue Guest.
