James Miller & Adenia Mayson

James Miller born 30 Aug 1780 Spartanburg, SC, son of James Miller Sr. and Mary Neely Miller, married Adenia Mayson born 29 Jan 1792 in Abbeville, SC granddaughter of Lt. Col. James Mayson, Rev War Soldier. This couple sold their real estate holdings in Spartan in 1816 and moved into Franklin County settling on the hill overlooking the site of the old Kesler covered bridge on Middle Fork Broad River, their land straddled the line between now Banks and Franklin counties.

According to the County records James and Adenia operated a Tavern or rest stop on that hill and raised their children as follows:

  1. James Mayson Miller born 1811 married Harriett Strange
  2. Mary Polly Miller born 1812 married George Kesler born 1809.
  3. Samuel L. Miller born 1817 married Permelia Crump
  4. William H. Miller born 1814 married Martha A.
  5. Lavinia Emeline Miller born 1816 married Wm. Terrell Martin
  6. Nancy E. Miller born 1818 married Henry Phillips
  7. Frances Elizabeth Miller born 1820 married David Fulbright
  8. Joseph D. Miller
  9. Sarah Ann Miller born 1824 married Wm. Henry Kesler III
  10. Henry F. Miller born 1826 married Nancy Waldrup.

This is Prospect Community and was at one time Mize Post Office at the south end of Kesler Bridge where James MILLER's descendant Richard Lane Miller ran a store and was postmaster of MIZE. The site of the Tavern on the hill was acquired by Mary and George Kesler after James died and George Kesler's store was located on the same spot. The Kesler store records are in the State Archives.
