Oliver Gaines Barron was a Master Warden and brethren of County Line Masonic Lodge #159. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Mt. Zion in Douglas County. This information was copied from page 192 of the Minute Book of the County Line Lodge, Records of 1904 by Mrs. Genevive Taylor Camp, wife of Benjamin Lassetter Camp, a grandson of O. J. Barron. Copied March 8, 1939.

Oliver Gaines Barron was a Pvt, Co. K, 1st Reg Georgia Reserves. He was mustered in to the service of the Confederate States April 27, 1864 in Atlanta, GA. His occupation on the enlistment forms is listed as a Farmer, Carroll Co., GA. Mary Jane received his pension.

THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF O. G. BARRON

I Oliver G. Barron of Said State and county, being of sound and dispasing mind and memory, do make this my last will and testament, revoking all others heretofore made by me.

I wish my executors so soon as possible after my death to pay all any just debts: if a sale of my property shall be necessary for such perpose, I wish them to select for said sale such of any property as can be most advantageously used therefor; and I authorize them to sell the same at public or private sale as they may deem best for the interest of the estate.

It is my wish that my estate remain undivided during the life or widowhood of my wife, Mary Jane Barron, and that for and during her life or widow-hood, I desire that she possess and control my estate and use the proceeds thereof for her maintenance and support.

I desire and direct that upon the death of my said wife, or the termination of her widow-ohood, that my executors proceed as early as possible to sell all my property, and after paying all expenses incident upon converting the same into money, that they divide and distribute said money equally, share and share alike, among all my children, except Manicus, and an equal share, which otherwise but for said exception, would be given to him, I hereby bequesth to the children of my said son Manicus in lieu of anything to him, to be used and controlled by him for the sole use, benefit and behoof of his said children, and to be free from the debts, defaults, liabilities, or miscarriage of the said Manicus Barron, passed or future and my executors are hereby directed to turn said share over to said Manicus without bond from him where any estate is finally distributed. By "Manicus" I mean my son A. J. Barron.

Should any of my children die before the death or widowhood of my said wife, leaving children, said children shall have equally the share of such deceased parent.

I wish it understood by my executors that the children of my daughter "Tinie", now deceased, shall have equal the share of their deceased mother, free from the use or control of their father, W. J. Richards.

It is my desire, and I hereby direct, that in case of the death of any one of my daughters, before or after the death or widowhood of my said wife, leaving children, that such money coming from my estate to such deceased daughter shall belong and go to the children of such deceased daughter, share and share alike.

I hereby appoint my sons James H. Barron and William T. Barron executors of this my last will and testament.

Jessie Andrew Otwell went from farm to farm doing work. He met Maria Camp when he was working on the farm of Walter Colquitt Camp, Maria's father. When he was dying, he was brought back to Newnan to the East Newnan Village where his people were.

Notes for WILLIAM JACKSON STRICKLAND:

William Jackson Strickland shot himself. He went to his bedroom, put the butt of his shotgun against the footboard of the bed, put the barrel in his mouth and used his walking cane to push the trigger.

William Jackson Strickland and his brother Monroe worked with their father, George Newton Strickland, going from farm to farm in Douglas and Campbell (Carroll now) counties and trashing the hay or corn with their machine. One of the farms they worked on was the farm of Walter Colquitt Camp, Old Five Knots Road, Whitesburg, Campbell Co., GA. That is how William Jackson Strickland met his wife, Mary Estelle Camp.

William Jackson Strickland was a farmer and in the early 1900's he also ran the ferry at Hutchinson Ferry Crossing that crossed the Chattahoochee River between Carroll and Fulton Counties just north of Rosco (Coweta County.)

Fred Roebuck ran a shoe repair show in Newnan, GA. When I, Sarah Kathryn Strickland, was young , he would let me work at his show shop. The original Shop which was owned by his father was on Greenville Street, one block south of the court square. Later it moved to the corner of East Broad Street and Perry Street on the Northwest corner. In the late 1960's the shop moved to the north side of West Washington Street in the first block off the square

Walter Camp Strickland was one of the kindest men I have ever known. When he was a baby, he fell out of his crib and received brain damage. He was a little slow. Walter never attended public school.

He did odd jobs at the local service station. Everyone in town knew Mr. Walt and loved him.

Gladys Haynie received a Nursing Degree from St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, GA in 1923. She and George married in 1933 when she was 28 years old.

Gladys and George had twin girls 1940. They had been married a little over six years. One baby girl, Nancy Elizabeth, lived only a few hours. The other girl, Sarah Kathryn, weighing in at less than three pounds, stayed in the nursery at Newnan Hospital for six months. Gladys lived one week less than two months after the birth of the twins. She was 35 years old.

Notes for MARY LOU STRICKLAND:

Mary Lou Strickland joined the Waves during World War II. She was stationed in Hawaii. After she and Jack were married and when the war was over, they settled in California where they raised Walnuts.

After Jack's death she and Scott ran the farm. Later she sold the farm and moved to town. In 1985 she married the widower of a good friend.

She married TOMMY KEHELEY PIKE February 18, 1960 in Bremen, GA, son of THOMAS MOODY and LUCILLE KEHELEY. He was born December 27, 1939 in Newnan, Coweta Co., Georgia.

Notes for TOMMY KEHELEY PIKE:

Tommy Keheley Pike was the natural son of Lucile Virginia Keheley and Thomas Rossell Moody. His original birth certificate shows his name as "Thomas Rossell Moody, Jr." Lucile died shortly after his birth and his father was not able to care for him at that time. Tommy went home from the hospital with his mother's sister, Mary Francis Keheley Pike and Coley Pike. From that time on the baby was known as Tommy Keheley Pike.

When Tommy was about age five, Rossell who had remarried, went to court and tried to get Tommy. The judge rulled that the child would stay where he was and at age 21 he could decide if he wanted to be Tommy Pike or Thomas Rossell Moody, Jr.

In 1961, Tommy Pike legally changed his name from Thomas Rossell Moody, Jr. to Tommy Keheley Pike. He had been know as Tommy Keheley Pike his entire life and never had any contact with his natural father.

Kathryn Leigh Pike was a flight attendant for Delta Airlines for five years.

She was the co-founder of "Kids Castle Park", a community funded and built Children's playground, built at the Newnan Utilities Park, Sewell Road, Newnan, GA 1998.

Kathryn Leigh Pike Schlumper entered the race for County Commissioner for Coweta County in May, 2000. There were three candidates. She had the most votes, but not a majority and therefore a run-off was held August 18, 2000. She won by 236 votes.
