County records (particularly wills and other estate records) are a useful substitute for death records. Pre-1900 county records for the majority of Georgia counties are available at the Archives. As a substitute for birth records, search Federal population schedules (also known as census records). Federal census records for Georgia through 1920 are included in the microfilm collection at the Archives. Georgia Local & Family History Department Locaed: Fifth Floor Scope of Collection : Genealogy tools & family histories, plus Georgia-related nonfiction (in all subject areas), biography & fiction, reflecting many aspects of life in Georgia and the region. The Georgia Local and Family History Department consists of the Georgia History Collection and the Genealogy Collection as well as the Margaret Mitchell Collection. The Georgia History Collection contains books on the history of Atlanta and Georgia as well as the neighboring region. The Genealogy Collection contains sources whose emphasis is on Georgia; some sources contain information on North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and other states. We do not hold vital records such as birth and death certificates.
