Thomas Glascock was born in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, on October
21, 1790. He attended their public schools, studied law, was admitted to
the bar and commenced a practice in Augusta, Georgia. He was captain of
Volunteers in the War of 1812, served with the rank of brigadier general in
the Seminole War of 1817. He was a Democrat member of the State house of
representatives 1821, 1823, 1831, 1834 and 1839. He served as speaker of
the house in 1833 and 1834. Thomas Glascock was elected as a Jacksonian to
the Twenty-Fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of
John W.A. Sanford. He was re-elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-Fifth
Congress and served from October 5, 1835 to March 3, 1839. He was chairman
of the Committee on Militia and retired from public service where he lived
in Decatur, Georgia, until his death on May 19, 1841. He is buried in the
City Cemetery of Augusta, Georgia.
