Grady County was created from eastern Decatur and western Thomas counties by an act of the Georgia Legislature, effective January 1, 1906. It was named for Henry Woodfin Grady, orator and editor of The Atlanta Constitution, who foretold the rise of the New South.

The GAGenWeb parent project, The USGenWeb Project, consists of a group of volunteers working together to provide Internet Web sites for genealogical research in every county and every state of the United States. The project is non-commercial and fully committed to free access for everyone.
