FUNERAL HELD FOR MRS. J.P. SELLERS TUESDAY
The tragic death of Mrs. J.P. (Martha Ann Watts) Sellers, which occured last Sunday afternoon about five o'clock four miles east of Cairo on the Cairo-Thomasville highway, the result of an automobile accident, in which her grandson, Leon Sellers, of near Thomasville, was also killed, his wife, baby, and sister being seriously injured, shocked this entire section.
Mrs. Sellers was born in Canton, Ga., Nov 4th, 1853, a daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. William Franklin Watts, having moved to this section during her early girlhood days. About sixth-five years ago she was married to the late John Pryor Sellers, who died on March 28, 1918. She had been a faithful member of the Baptist church for more than a half century, her membership having been at Magnolia Baptist church about five miles southwest of Whigham. She was one of the finest characters that it has ever been the privilege of the writer to know; a truly great and good woman; loved and admired by a host of acquaintances. Although her body has been returned to the earth, the influence that she wielded for good will live on.
The body was brought to Whigham Monday afternoon, and was placed in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Sellers. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, July 1st, at 10 o'clock at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Sellers, conducted by Rev. N.G. Christopher, of Whigham. Immediately after the service a large number of relatives and friends accompanied the body to the Magnolia Baptist church for interment.
Mrs. Sellers is survived by three sons, Robert L. Sellers, of Whigham, Oscar D. Sellers, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jesse M. Sellers, of Chatsworth, Ga.; and two daughters, Mrs. P.W. Sellers and Mrs. O.J. Parramore, of Thomasville; also twenty two grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Pall bearers were Ward Sellers and Albert McCrory, of Jacksonville, Herman Sellers, of Atlanta, M.F. Laing, Joe D. Lewis and M.J. Perkins, of Whigham.
South Georgia Funeral Home, of Cairo, was in charge.

ANNIE STEPHENS
On April the 16th 1918, the spirit of sister Annie Stephens took it's flight to the world beyond. It was in the darkness of the night when her summons came, but there was a light in the Valley of Death for her, for in death as in life Jesus was near. She gave her heart to Him while young and trusted Him with such faith that when her feet were touching the mystic waters, she could look into the faces of those she loved and say, " It is well with my soul."
She left a husband, five boys and two little girls, for whom she wished so much to live, but she left them with a rich heritage in the sweet Christian life she lived always trying to do good and make everyone happy around her. Though her face lies hidden underneath a mound of clay, we feel that the world is better for having her lived in it.
Therefore be it resolved that we have lost one of our most loyal members, that we will ever hold in loving memory, our beloved sister, that we extend to her family our heartfelt sympathy, and commend them to the Comforter of all hearts, who alone can soothe their sorrows in their sore bereavement, and that these resolutions be spread on our Church records, and a copy be given the husband and children.

HENRY EBENEZER STEPHENS
Joe Grollman of the local radio station in Bainbridge, wrote and announced the following about Henry Stephens....It is hard to realize that Henry Stephens is gone.. Henry was so a part of the life and welfare of Bainbridge and Decatur County---civically, fraternally, and religiously--so immersed in the affairs of our community, that we cannot imagine a day passing without seeing Henry's familiar smile, enjoying his pleasant handshake and friendly pat on the back...... Those were Henry's outward signs of his love for his fellowman--a smile, a handshake, and a pat on the back. But inwardly there was the constant desire to work for and serve the people of his beloved city and county. As chairman of the Decatur County Board of Commisioners he was always willing to listen to all who came to see him, anxious to do his best, taking into consideration the needs and wishes of all the people. He was a staunch leader in his church, in his fraternal groups, in all phases of Masonry and Shrinedom, in his Lion's Club, and in all his affliations that had for its chief tenets, brotherly love, the Golden Rule, and service. He led a good clean life, practicing the GOOD life as he felt it. He was sincere in his endeavors, concientious in his efforts, and he had the courage of his convictions. Henry's influence for good, will be felt for a long, long time. Our deepest sympathy to the family of Henry Stephens...
Henry Ebenezer Stephens and his wife, Ethel Mae Harrell, are buried in the Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge, Georgia.
