Descendants of Jones and Rebecca Tillman DOUGLASS
met on July 25, 1993 in Forsyth and Gwinnett Counties
to mark the graves of 3 family members -

Captain Jones Tarpley Douglass, the son of James
Douglass, served in Company E, 8th Georgia Milia,
"Gwinnett Greys," CSA.  His grave @ Ebenezer Methodist
Church Cemetery in Cumming, Georgia was marked &
dedicated.

Rebecca TILLMAN, wife of Jones Douglass, was first
dedicated.  She was the daughter of Matthew and
Elizabeth DeVore Tillman, born in Edgefield, SC - 14 Aug.
1781.  She and Jones Douglas were married in Hancock
County, Georgia in 1803.  They had 12 children, many of
whom have descendants that live in Gwinnett, Forsyth
and Hall Counties.  Rebecca died 20 March 1864 and was
buried in her wedding dress which was altered for her
shroud.

Jones Douglass was born in Mecklenburg, VA on 25 Nov.
1779; the son of David and Martha JONES Douglass.  He
died at his home on 20 Oct. 1846 and was laid to rest
where he had previously chosen.  His grave in 1855
had been marked by a large granite slab prepared by
his son Jones T. Douglass.  The lettering now hard to
read from weathering, was helped by the placement of
the new bronze marked on the top of the slab.  This
marker identifies his as a Veteran of the War of 1812,
where he served as a saddler in Captain John P. Harvey's
Troop of Light Dragoons, Georgia Militia.

The owners of the old Jones Douglass homeplace in
Gwinnett allowed 25 members from Fl, GA, AL and Texas
to access the family cemetery in Suwanee.
