Fowler, Eugene Talmadge
Funeral services for Eugene Talmadge Fowler, 57, of Cornelia will be held at
2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev.
Terry Rice will officiate, with burial in Level Grove Cemetery. Mr. Fowler died
Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness. Born in
Oglethorpe County on July 26, 1945, he was the son of the late Alvin Edward and
Doris Alford Gaines Fowler. Mr. Fowler was employed by Pepsi Cola with four
years of service and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife,
Carolyn Wade Fowler of Cornelia; daughters, Telisha Fowler of Cornelia, Tammy
Burgess of Atlanta; son, Billy Joe Fowler of Atlanta; stepson, Anthony Wade of
Cornelia; sisters, Linda Holman of Jefferson, Vickie Fowler and Kathy Bryson,
both of South Carolina; brothers, Jerry Fowler of Comer, Wayne Fowler, Noel
Fowler, James Fowler and Bobby Fowler, all of South Carolina; half-brother, Matt
Gaines Jr. of Madison County; and four grandchildren. The family will receive
friends from 6-9 p.m. today, Aug. 13, at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted
or memorials may be made to the Eugene Fowler Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 866,

Long, Capt. Larry
Funeral services for Capt. Larry Long, 44, of Baldwin were held at 3 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 11, at Level Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Terry Rice and Chaplain
Pat Duran officiated with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens. Mr. Long died
Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at St. Josephs Hospital in Atlanta following a brief
illness. Born in Stephens County on Nov. 9, 1957, he was a 1976 graduate of
Habersham Central High School. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church,
Cornelia Lodge No. 92 F&AM, the Mountaineer Shrine Club and Yaraab Temple in
Atlanta. He was captain in charge of jail and road patrol with the Banks County
Sheriffs Department with seven years of service. Mr. Long was preceded in death
by his father, C.R. Long. Survivors include his wife, Kathy McEntire Long of
Baldwin; mother and stepfather, Faye Newsome Long and Vermon Wright of Cornelia;
daughter, Mary Long of Commerce; son, Billy Long of Baldwin; stepsisters, Joy
Echols of Lula, Jane Davis of Ellenwood; brother, Ronnie Long of Cornelia;
stepbrother, Richard Wright of Forest Park; and one grandchild. Whitfield
Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, was in charge of arrangements.
Snow, Eva Jane Scott
Funeral services for Eva Jane Scott Snow, 70, of Turnerville were held at 4
p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at McDonald and Son Funeral Home in Cumming. Burial was in
Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Ala. Mrs. Snow died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002. Mrs.
Snow was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Luther Snow Jr. Survivors
include her children, Scott and Sandy Snow of Acworth, Mike and Pat Snow of
Morganton, Cindie Snow Creecy of Cumming, Marc and Jennifer Snow of Turnerville;
grandchildren, Scott Snow Jr., Howard Snow and Jennifer Snow, all of Acworth,
Luther Snow of Morganton, Lee Creecy, Collin Creecy, Katherine Creecy and Kevin
Creecy, all of Cumming. L. W. McDonald & Son Funeral Home, Cumming, was in
charge of arrangements.
Burkhalter, Walter Hershel
Funeral services for Walter Hershel Burkhalter, 69, of Cleveland were held
at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Alexanders Gateway Chapel Funeral Home, with the
Rev. Lyndon Eubanks officiating. Mr. Burkhalter died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at
a private hospice care home following an extended illness. Born in Fulton
County, he spent much of his life in Stone Mountain prior to moving to White
County in 1972. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Clarkston
Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Jacquline Burkhalter of Cleveland;
daughters and sons-in-law, Constance and Cliff Hood of Helen, Denise and Russell
Letson of Rome; mother, Thelma Lovelace Burkhalter of Winder; brothers, Phillip
Burkhalter of Memphis, Tenn., Richard Burkhalter of Sugar Hill, Michael
Burkhalter of Conyers, Barry Burkhalter of Atlanta; sister, Linda Barnhart of
Winder; and four grandsons. Memorials may be made to Georgia Masonic Childrens

Tyler, Johnny Franklin Frank
Funeral services for Johnny Franklin Frank Tyler, 66, of Cornelia were held
at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Demorest Church of God. The Rev. Bill Cox and
the Rev. Darvin Slaton officiated with burial in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery,
Tiger. Mr. Tyler died Thursday, Aug. 8, at his residence following an extended
illness. Born in Rabun County on March 18, 1936, he was the son of the late
Harve Pierce and Martha Smith Tyler. He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby
Tyler; brother, Samuel Raymond Tyler; and sisters, Nancy Beasley and Fannie Mae
Watts. He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of Demorest Church
of God. Survivors include his wife, Betty Watts Tyler of Cornelia; daughters,
Sandra Parrington of Westminster, S.C., Lana Tyler of Cornelia; sons, Ken Tyler
of Columbia, S.C., Johnny Tyler of Cornelia; brothers, Cecil Tyler of Mountain
City, James Tyler of Alto, Robert Tyler of Homer; sisters, Sara Ruth Ridney of
New York, Mary Virginia Taylor of Florida, Irene Whitfield of Cornelia, Martha
Lillian Watts of Wiley, Lizzie Bell Moore of Tiger, Kathryn Davis of Macon,
Mildred Joann Varner of South Carolina, Clara Faye Baker of Tiger; seven
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. McGahee-Griffin & Stewart

Hamilton, Lucille King
Funeral services for Lucille King Hamilton, 61, of Cornelia were held at
1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Cornelia. The Rev.
Ernest Burns officiated with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hamilton
died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Born in Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late W. G. and Gladys
Scott King. She attended Cornelia Regional High School. Mrs. Hamilton was the
owner of Lu Lus Place restaurant and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Andr Hamilton. Survivors include her
husband, Roy Hamilton of the home; son, James Douglas Hamilton of Powder
Springs; sisters, Martha King, Everean King, Betty Browner, all of Cornelia,
Ella Mae Chappell of Clarkesville; brothers, Eugene King, Thomas King, Johnny
King, Anthony King, all of Cornelia, Matthew King of Toccoa; six grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren. Moss-Stovall-Neal Funeral Home, Toccoa, was in
charge of arrangements.
Gunn, Oma Stockton Hollifield
Funeral services for Oma Stockton Hollifield Gunn, 86, of Demorest will be
held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 30, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel. The Rev.
Raymond Payne and the Rev. John Humphries will officiate, with burial in Yonah
Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Gunn died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at a private nursing
home following an extended illness. Born in Macon County, N.C., on July 18,
1917, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Hattie McClure Stockton. She
was preceded in death by her husbands, Hoke Hollifield and William P. Gunn. She
was retired from International Outerwear with several years of service. Mrs.
Gunn was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include
her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas F. and Jane Hollifield of Clarkesville; and
grandchildren, Michael Hollifield, Jeff Hollifield and Katie Hollifield, all of
Clarkesville. Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, is in charge of
arrangements.
Lattanzi, A.D. Joe
Piedmont College lost its No. 1 fan and one of its biggest boosters Tuesday
with the death of A.D. Joe Lattanzi, following a brief illness. Lattanzi, 72,
lived in Smyrna, but his heart was never far from the college where he played
baseball as a student and met his wife, Peggy (Oliver). Joe, as he was
universally known, was president of the Piedmont Letter Club and a former
president of the Alumni Association. He was inducted into the Piedmont Athletic
Hall of Fame in 1981, and in 1990 he received the colleges Alumni Service Award.
A Bronx, N.Y., native, Lattanzi was employed by the Cobb County Board of
Education for 31 years at Campbell High School as an American history teacher, a
coach and assistant principal. The Campbell baseball field recently was named in
his honor. A scout for professional baseball teams, Lattanzi was a Navy veteran
and a court bailiff for the Cobb County Court System. He was a member of the
National Rifle Association, Smyrna American Legion Post No. 160, VFW Post No.
2681 in Marietta, Smyrna Golden K Club, and Smyrna First United Methodist
Church. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Joseph Dante Lattanzi of Smyrna,
Ricci Oliver Lattanzi of Rome and Anthony Adair Lattanzi of Lula; one daughter,
Gina Elvira Lattanzi of Germantown, Tenn.; one sister, Clara King of Calhoun;
and seven grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Piedmont College Letter
Club, P.O. Box 10, Demorest, GA 30535, or the Gods Light Choir, c/o Smyrna First
United Methodist Church, 1315 Concord Road, Smyrna, GA 30080. Services will be
11 a.m. today, Aug. 30, at Smyrna First United Methodist Church, with the Rev.
Pat Shannon and the Rev. Jim Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Yonah
Memorial Cemetery in Demorest at 3 p.m.
Gorr, Earl J. Jr.
Private funeral arrangements for Earl J. Gorr Jr., 67, of Fort Lauderdale,
Fla., were completed as per deceaseds last wish. Mr. Gorr died Thursday, Aug.
29, 2002, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Mr. Gorr was the son of Lillian Abenes, and
brother of Russell E. Gorr and Kenneth J. Gorr of Demorest. Survivors include
his wife, Jean Gorr; sons, Thomas Gorr, Geffrey Gorr; a stepson; and a grandson,
all of Florida. Also surviving are sisters, Gladys Baker of Pennsylvania, and
Caroline Teelon of Florida.
