Beasley, William Dana
Memorial services for William Dana Beasley, 61, of Athens will be held at 1
p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, in the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East.
Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Turnerville. Mr. Beasley
died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002. A native of Savannah, he was a graduate of the
University of Georgia School of Social Work. He retired after 30 years as a
licensed clinical social worker with the state of Georgia through the Northeast
Georgia Mental Health Center. He was preceded in death by his father, Millard
Beasley. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Shirley Beasley of Athens; daughter,
Amanda Beasley of New York City, N.Y.; mother, Rosalie Eanes Friedman Beasley;
brother, Roddy Beasley of Savannah; sister, Sandra Rhangos of Savannah; and a

Bohannon, John
Funeral services for John Bohannon Jr., 81, of Demorest were held at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 24, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel. The Rev. William E.
Cox officiated; burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors
provided by Rabun County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15, and the honor
guard from Ft. McPherson. Mr. Bohannon died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at
Habersham County Medical Center. Born in White County on June 16, 1921, he was
the son of the late John Sr. and Katie Fennell Bohannon. He was preceded in
death by six brothers and one sister. Mr. Bohannon was a U.S. Army World War II
veteran and was a painter and floor sander. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his sister, Betty Wilson of Demorest, and a number of nieces
and nephews, including Gail Chambers of Demorest with whom he made his home.

Cantrell, G. Frank
Funeral services for G. Frank Cantrell, 70, of Mt. Airy will be held at 11
a.m. today, Dec. 27, at Hazel Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Trent Smith and the
Rev. Billy Burrell will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Mr.
Cantrell died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at his residence following an extended
illness. Born in Breman, Ala., he was the son of the late Frank and Beulah
Warren Cantrell. Mr. Cantrell was a retired staking engineer with Habersham
Electric Membership Corporation, a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean
conflict, and a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his
wife, Catherine Smith Cantrell of Mt. Airy; daughter, Denise Cantrell of Mt.
Airy; son, David Cantrell of Mt. Airy; son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Aundrea
Cantrell of Mt. Airy; brother, Donald Cantrell of Dacula; sister, Betty Jo

Daniel, Rachel Clark
Funeral services for Rachel Clark Daniel, 61, of Homer were held at 3 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 23, at Damascus Baptist Church. The Rev. Roy Rogers and the Rev.
Ken Allen officiated; burial was in the church cemetery with the Rev. Gene Todd
officiating at graveside. Mrs. Daniel died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at her
residence following an extended illness. Born in Gwinnett County on Nov. 22,
1941, she was the daughter of the late Dillard and Bernice Blalock Clark. Mrs.
Daniel was a homemaker and a member of Damascus Baptist Church. She was preceded
in death by her son, Scottie L. Daniel; brother, Harmon Clark; and sisters,
Shirley Clark, Sara Coggins and Ethlene Moncrief. Survivors include her husband,
Bobby Daniel of Homer; daughters, Angela Whidby and Janet Pass of Carnesville,
Donna Parr of Homer; son, Bobby Wayne Daniel of Homer; sisters, Doris House of

Davis, Howard Edgar
Memorial services for Howard Edgar Davis, 75, of Cornelia were held at 2
p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Harvest Christian Church. Pastor Rick Cox officiated.
Mr. Davis died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Decatur Hospital following a brief
illness. Survivors include his wife, Betty Cobble Davis of the home; daughters,
Kathy Davis of Cumming, Vickie Cannon of Lula; son, Kevin Davis of Buford; three
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers; and three sisters.

Forester, Katherine Foster
Funeral services for Katherine Foster Forester, 84, of Cornelia will be held
at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel. Dr. T.
Logan Smith, Chaplain Bron Forester and the Rev. Gene Poole officiating with
burial in Level Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Forester died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at her
son’s residence following an extended illness. Born in Habersham County on
March 31, 1918, she was the daughter of the late H.C. and Kitty Berrong Foster.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Moss Forester. Mrs. Forester was
the owner of Stylorama Beauty Salon for 26 years and was also the owner of a
cloth shop in Cornelia for a number of years. Mrs. Forester was a member of the
Cornelia First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the 3L Sunday school
class and the WMU. She was the founder of the Laotian ministry at the church and
was associated with several other church missions. Mrs. Forester was involved
with the R.A.s, the G.A.s, Vacation Bible School, the Helping Hands and had
served as a Sunday school teacher. Survivors include her daughter, Eloise
Cirelli of Pescaya, Italy; sons, retired Cmdr. O. Bron Forester of Virginia
Beach, Va., Cliff Forester of Cornelia; sister, Allie Ree Webster of Cleveland;
four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First

Fuller, Virginia Breen
Virginia Breen Fuller, 72, of Clarkesville, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at
Habersham County Medical Center. Memorial services for Mrs. Fuller will be held
at a later date. Born in Fulton County on Jan. 26, 1930, she was the daughter of
the late Leo Joseph and Betty Stultz Breen. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Rex L. Fuller Jr.; daughter, Carol Fuller; and sister, Barbara Walters.
Mrs. Fuller was a retired accounting clerk and was a member of Morningside
Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. Survivors include her daughters, Dianne Perpich
of Cold Spring, N.Y., Victoria Fuller and Janice Fuller, both of Clarkesville;
son, Mark B. Fuller of Lawrenceville; sisters, Ramona Dodge of Springfield,
Ohio, Patricia Gordon of Kentucky; brothers, Mike Breen of Phoenix, Ariz., Larry

Hodges, Bill A.
Funeral services for Bill A. Hodges, 73, of Baldwin were held at 4 p.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 24, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, with burial in
Leatherwood Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Hodges died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at
the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Decatur. Born in Coats, N.C., on
Oct. 29, 1929, he was the son of the late Adell and Susan Brown Parker Hodges.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Henry; and brother, Charles Lewis
Hodges. Mr. Hodges was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was of the
Baptist faith. He was retired from the heating and air conditioning industry.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Vaughan Hodges of Baldwin; daughters,
Dorothy Bunnell of North Carolina, Tammy L. Byrd of Baldwin, Kay Hodges of
Fayetteville, N.C.; sons, Billy A. Hodges, Michael Hodges, Billy Ray Hodges and
Richard Hodges, all of Fayetteville, N.C., Jaycen A. Hodges of Gainesville;
sister, Shirley Brady of Dacula; brother, Bobby Parker of Atlanta; six

Jones, Felix ‘Buck’
Funeral services for Felix “Buck” Jones, 71, of Alto were held at 2 p.m.

Norton officiated with burial in Level Grove Cemetery. Mr. Jones died Saturday,
Dec. 21, 2002, at Rabun Memorial Hospital, Clayton. Born in Habersham County on
April 19, 1931, he was the son of the late Lester and Evie Ferguson Jones. He
retired after 31 years as a carpenter and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors
include his daughters, Evelyn Taylor of Seneca, S.C., Sue Simmemon of Cornelia;
sons, Jimmy Jones of Cornelia, Kenneth Jones of Alto; brother, Marvin Jones of

Jones, Wilbern W.
Funeral services for Wilbern W. Jones, 63, of Lula were held at 2 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 22, at Alto Congregational Holiness Church. The Rev. Leon Brown and
the Rev. Tim Beasley officiated with burial in Holly Springs Baptist Church
Cemetery. Mr. Jones died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Northeast Georgia Medical
Center. Born in Habersham County on Feb. 5, 1939, he was the son of the late
Rev. Wiley Jones. He was employed with Magnavox in Henderson, N.C., and attended
Alto Congregational Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by his brother,
C.N. Jones; and grandson, William Stephens. Survivors include his wife, Lucy
Thomas Wiley Jones of Lula; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Donald Partin
of Cleveland, Rhonda and Barry Brookshire of Clarkesville, Lisa and Danny

Land, W. Quinton
Funeral services for W. Quinton Land, 82, of Cornelia were held at 11 a.m.
Monday, Dec. 23, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel. The Rev. Terry Rice
and the Rev. Jack Hardeman officiated with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens. Mr.
Land died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at a personal care home. Born in Fulton
County on July 17, 1920, he was the son of the late John Wesley and Ada Laura
Smith Land. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Fletcher Land, Jake Land
and Frank Land. Mr. Land was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, and prior to
retirement was co-owner and manager of Sandy Springs Hardware. He was a member
of Level Grove Baptist Church and a former member and deacon of Sentell Baptist
Church in Atlanta. Survivors include his wife, Irene Sutton Land of Cornelia;
daughter and son-in-law, Anita L. and Tommy Parker of Cornelia; son, Thomas
Wesley Land of Atlanta; sister, Amanda Brackett of Decatur; grandchildren and

Maney, Jewell Pruitt Jr.
Funeral services for Jewell Pruitt Maney Jr., 62, of Oxford, Ala., formerly
of Cornelia, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 13, at Whitfield Funeral Home,
North Chapel. Dr. Robert Culver will officiate. Burial will follow in Yonah
Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. William Cox officiating at graveside. Mr. Maney
died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002. Born in Habersham County on Sept. 3, 1940, he was a
graduate of North Habersham High School. Mr. Maney earned an associate’s
degree from the University of Georgia. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served
in the Vietnam War. Mr. Maney was an independent salesman and was a member of
Greenbriar Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Richards Maney of
Oxford, Ala.; parents, Jewell Pruitt Sr. and Lucille Nix Maney of Alto; daughter
and fiance, Karin Maney and Gary Chumney of Jacksonville, Ala.; son and

Marcus, Phillip Grant
Funeral services for Phillip Grant Marcus, 34, of Clayton were held at 2
p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, in the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. The Rev. Ronia
Hunter officiated with burial in Rabun Memory Park with military honors. Mr.
Marcus died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at his home following an extended illness.
Born in Rabun County on Oct. 20, 1968, he was a physician’s assistant and a
veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death
by his grandfather, Wade R. Hunter. Survivors include his mother and stepfather,
Almeita Hunter and Greg McGinnis of Clayton; father, Bruce Marcus of West Union,
S.C.; sister, Kelli Marcus Palmer of Clarkesville; grandmother, Lillian Garland
Hunter of Clayton; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins. Memorials may

Nix, Randall R.
Funeral services for Randall R. Nix, 77, of Cornelia will be held at 2 p.m.

County Post #15 Disabled American Veterans providing military honors at the
graveside. Mr. Nix died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Habersham County Medical
Center. Born in White County on Aug. 17, 1925, he was the son of the late N.A.
Nix and Matilda Winkler Nix. He was preceded in death by his sister, Etheleen
Wilkins; and brother, Bernice Nix. Mr. Nix was a U.S. Army World War II veteran
and was a member of Toccoa VFW Post #4346. He was manager of Sherwin-Williams
Paint Store in Toccoa for 17 years, and retired after 17 years service as
manager of the paint department of Stovall Building Supplies in Toccoa. He was a
member of Hillside Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Betty Chambers
Nix of Cornelia; daughter, Angela Pate of Cornelia; sons, Ray Nix of Toccoa,
Larry Nix of Toccoa; sisters, Lorene Higgins of Dahlonega, Bonnie King of

Pitts, Ruth Moss
Entombment services for Ruth Moss Pitts, 74, of Clarkesville will be held at
2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Yonah Memorial Gardens, Demorest. The Rev. David
Turner will officiate. Mrs. Pitts died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at her
residence following a brief illness. Born in Habersham County on Feb. 6, 1928,
she was the daughter of the late Hoyt and Ola Trotter Moss. She was a homemaker
and was retired from Piedmont Automotive Products. Mrs. Pitts was of the Baptist
faith and was a former member of Habersham Baptist Church. She was preceded in
death by a son, Samuel Lee Pitts. Survivors include her husband, Robert F.
“Bill” Pitts of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Cheryl Pitts
of Tallulah Falls; sister, Birdie Lee Moss of Clarkesville; brother, Larry
Franklin Moss of Cornelia; grandson, Scott Pitts of Cornelia; and two
great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today, Dec.

Poole, Tom W. Sr.
Funeral services for Tom W. Poole Sr., 80 of Alto were held at 9 a.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 24, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Kenneth
McEntire officiated. Burial was in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. with the
Rev. Clyde Garrison officiating at graveside with military honors provided by
the Honor Guard from Ft. McPherson. Mr. Poole died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at
Lanier Park Hospital, Gainesville. Born in Banks County on Aug. 18, 1922, he was
the son of the late John Stovall and Rosa Lee Sellers Poole. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Ruth Moss Poole; brother, J.D. Poole; sisters, Lola Mason,
Louise Roberts; grandchildren, Shea Marie Poole and Tom Joseph Poole. Mr. Poole
was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, a retired farmer and a member of Damascus
Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughters, Jean Cox, Judy Garrish and
Janice Tatum, all of Alto; son, Tom Poole Jr. of Alto; brother, Ed Poole of

Savage, Tex Timothy
Funeral services for Tex Timothy Savage, 64, of Lula, were held at 11 a.m.
Thursday, Dec. 12, at Skitts Mountain Baptist Church. The Rev. Kyle Savage, the
Rev. Jesse Savage, the Rev. Tommy England and the Rev. Chris Anderson
officiated, with burial following in the Savage Family Cemetery. Mr. Savage died
Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended
illness. Born in Hall County, he was the son of the late Lucas and Bartie
Savage. He was a member of Skitts Mountain Baptist Church and was preceded in
death by a brother, Terry Lucas Savage, and a sister, Penny Brock. Survivors
include his wife, Brenda Savage of Lula; daughter, Pansy Wright of Cornelia;
stepdaughter and son-in-law, Davina and Larry Overcash of Gainesville; sons and
daughters-in-law, Scott and Fern Savage of Missouri, Lane and Karen Savage of
Cornelia; brother and sister-in-law, Clint and Pat Savage of Cornelia; sisters

Sigers, Robert Charles ‘Charlie’
Funeral arrangements for Robert Charles “Charlie” Sigers, 67, of Baldwin
are incomplete at this time. Mr. Sigers died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at his
residence following a sudden illness. Born in Habersham County on Aug. 10, 1935,
he was the son of the late Clifton and Mary Pearl Higgins Segers. He was
preceded in death by his brothers, Nesbit “Pop” Segers, Lewis Segers; and
sister, Ovalene Holden. Mr. Segers was employed by Pop’s Painting as a
residential and commercial painter. Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer
Segers of Cumming; sisters, Sylvia Sanders of Comer, Rachel Segers of Cumming,
Paulette Brown of Newborn; and brother, Wilkie Segers of Ellijay. Whitfield

Watkins, Willeree Armour Wilbanks
Funeral services for Willeree Armour Wilbanks Watkins, 74, of Cornelia were
held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at B.C. Grant Baptist Church, Alto. The Rev.
Clyde Garrison and the Rev. Woodrow Hix officiated, with burial in the church
cemetery. Mrs. Watkins died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Habersham County Medical
Center following a brief illness. Born in Oglethorpe County on Aug. 8, 1928, she
was the daughter of the late Dee Armour. Mrs. Watkins was a retired inspector
with Fieldale Corp., an avid gardener and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded
in death by her first husband, J.H. Wilbanks; and brothers, William Armour and
Howard Armour. Survivors include her husband, John L. Watkins of Cornelia;
daughter, Helen Wilbanks Thomas of Alto; stepsons, Anthony Watkins of Mt. Airy,
Marion Watkins of Homer; mother, Vadie Thomas Armour of Alto; brothers, D.W.
