Nathan Robert Aldis
The family of Nathan Robert Aldis, 24, of Clarkesville, received friends at
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home of Cornelia from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday,
Nov. 19. Mr. Aldis died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at Angel Medical Center in
Franklin, N.C., following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Cane County, Ill., on July 9, 1979, he was a self-employed carpenter. He
was of the Baptist faith and loved hunting, fishing and cars. He was preceded in
death by his grandparents, Robert Dare and William and Edna Aldis.
Surviving are his parents, Robert and Chrystal Dare Aldis of Clarkesville;
sister, Dusti Aldis of Lilburn; nephew, Noah Grey Casey of Lilburn; and
grandmother, Eva Mae Selpien of Elgin, Ill. Memorials may be made to the
American Cancer Society, c/o Barbara Fortenberry, 2062 Highway 115, Demorest, GA

Minnie Lea Wikle Brown
Funeral services for Minnie Lea Wikle Brown, 87, of Batesville, were held at 2
p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville with the
Rev. Richard Scoggins officiating. Burial followed at Providence Baptist Church
Cemetery. Mrs. Brown died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Scenic View Nursing Home in
Baldwin. Born in Habersham County on Oct. 13, 1916, she was the daughter of the
late William Arthur and Lela Smith Wikle. She also was preceded in death by her
husband, George B. Brown; a daughter, Peggy Swafford; a son, Kenneth Brown; and
brothers, Paul Wikle and Billy Wikle. Mrs. Brown was a member of Providence
Baptist Church in Batesville. She was also a retired teacher with the Habersham
County School System. Survivors include a daugher, Lela Ann Brown of
Clarkesville; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Barbara Wikle of
Clarkesville; a sister, Marie W. Eppinga of Stone Mountain; and a number of
nieces and nephews. Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville was in charge of
arrangements.
Louise Gosnell
Funeral services for Louise Gosnell, 42, of Demorest, will be held at 11 a.m.
today, Nov. 21, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with the Rev.
Madison McCrackin officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with
the Rev. Bill Free officiating. Mrs. Gosnell died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at
Northeast Georgia Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Habersham
County on Nov. 11, 1961, she was employed by Freudenberg-NOK and was of the
Baptist faith. Survivors include her parents, Benny Thomas and Helen Gragg Barrs
of Clarkesville; daughters, Ashley Gosnell of Clarkesville and Savannah Page of
Demorest; sons, Jeremy Gosnell of Clarkesville and Daniel Gosnell of Homer;
sisters, Diann Jenkins of Clarkesville, Jeannette Jenkins of Alto, Martha
Gosnell of Homer and Donna Fry of Clarkesville; a brother, Donnie Barrs of
Clarkesville; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American
Cancer Society, c/o Kathy Palmer, 150 Maybrook Drive, Clarkesville, GA 30535.

Genevieve Dockery Dean
Funeral services for Genevieve Dockery Dean, 72, of Cornelia, were held at 3
p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with the Rev.
Anthony Shore and the Rev. Mike Franklin officiating. Burial followed in New
Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Dean died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at her
residence following an extended illness. Born March 14, 1931, in Aliquippa, Pa.,
she was the daughter of the late George A. and Anna Cunningham Dockery. She was
also preceded in death by her husband, Ray J. Dean. She was a beloved mother and
housewife and was employed by Fieldale Farms for 16 years. She was a member of
Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law,
Linda and Drake Nicholson of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Candie
Dean of Cornelia; brother, James Dockery of Cornelia; and grandchildren,
Jennifer and Dillon Nicholson and Ray and John-Henry Dean. Memorials may be made
to the charity of one’s choice. Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel in Demorest
was in charge of arrangements.
Homer James Deal
Funeral services for Homer James Deal, 76, of Gainesville, will be today, Nov.
21, at the Little-Davenport Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ron Barker
officiating. Burial will be in the Clarkesville City Cemetery. Mr. Deal died
Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Born in
Habersham County, Mr. Deal was the son of the late James Boliver and Emma Smith
Deal. He lived in Hall County the past 40 years. He was retired from the
Southern Railroad as a signal supervisor. He is preceded in death by his wife,
Frances Geraldine Sutton Dale; and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Deal. Survivors
include his daughters and sons-in-law, Melody and Eric Daniel of Clarkesville,
Tracy and Philip Shipley of Gainesville; special friend, Vera Wooten of
Gainesville; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces
and nephews. Little-Davenport Funeral Home of Gainesville is in charge of
arrangements.
Glynn “Smiley” Hammock
Funeral services for Glynn “Smiley” Hammock, 63, of Mt. Airy, will be held at 2
p.m. today, Nov. 21, at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville with the Rev.
Jolly Crumley officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church
Cemetery. Mr. Hammock died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Northeast Georgia
Medical Center in Gainesville following a brief illness. Born in Habersham
County on Feb. 2, 1940, he was the son of the late Bill and Janie Martin
Hammock. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Mattox Hammock; and a
brother, Vernon Truelove. Mr. Hammock was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired
antique dealer and collector. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by
daughters, Soni Hopkins of Mt. Airy and Cathy Ivester of Turnerville; and sons,
James Hammock of Royston and Danks Hammock of Mt. Airy. Hillside Memorial Chapel
of Clarkesville is in charge of arrangements.
Emi Lee Pressley Waring
Funeral services for Emi Lee Pressley Waring, 88, of Habersham Home East,
Demorest and formerly of Spartanburg, S.C., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday,
Oct. 22, at J.F. Floyd Mortuary’s Greenlawn Chapel in Spartanburg with
entombment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Waring died Tuesday,
Nov. 18, 2003, at Habersham County Medical Center. Born in Arden, N.C., on Dec.
29, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Kelly Pressley and Marian Hart Allen
and also was preceded in death by her husband, Norman L. Waring. She retired
after 20 years of service as a medical lab technician and was a member of Park
Hills Church of God in Spartanburg. Survivors include her son and
daughter-in-law, John and Carol Perkins of Cornelia. The family will receive
friends at J.F. Floyd Mortuary’s Greenlawn Chapel from 6-8 p.m. today, Nov. 21.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Park Hills
Chuch of God, 123 Westview Blvd., Spartanburg, S.C. 29306. Whitfield Funeral
Home, South Chapel of Baldwin is in charge of local arrangements.
