Black, James 'Jimmy'
Funeral services for James "Jimmy" Black, 61, of Cleveland will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at the chapel of Barrett Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Taylor and the Rev. Joel Shadburn officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Black died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at St. Mary's Hospice in Athens following an extended illness. Mr. Black was born in White County and was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert W. Black; and brother-in-law, Junior Young. Barrett Funeral Home, Cleveland, is in charge of arrangements.

Blackburn, Skyler Heath
Graveside services for Skyler Heath Blackburn, infant son of Tambra Armour and Justin Blackburn of Cornelia, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at B.C. Grant Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Rich Hulsey officiating. Infant Blackburn died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at Habersham County Medical Center. He was born in Habersham County on Nov. 2, 2006. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents: Charlie and Frances Williams, Floyd Blackburn and Larry Armour. McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.

Childers, John
Funeral services for John Henry Childers, 70, of Alto will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, from the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Rev. John Kinsey and the Rev. Sanford Kimbrell officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

Funeral services for J.C. Cowart, 72, of Clarkesville, were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Jerry Vandiver officiating. Burial followed in Old Nacoochee Baptist Church Cemetery. Funeral services for J.C. Burial followed in Old Nacoochee Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Cowart died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Born on April 16, 1934, in Hiawassee, he was the son of the late Joseph Claude and Lola Shook Cowart. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Lurlene Roberts Cowart. Mr. Cowart was a cattle farmer and a retired correctional officer with Lee Arrendale State Prison, with 22 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith. Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, was in charge of arrangements.

Dalton, Louise
Funeral services for Louise Roberts Dalton, 86, of Homer were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at Charity Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Burrell and the Rev. Young Dalton officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Dean, Marvin E.
Funeral services for Marvin E. Dean, 81, of Cleveland, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at Chattahoochee Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Hefner, the Rev. Bill Gravley and the Rev. J.R. Fields officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Dean died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at a private care facility. 
Born on Nov. 19, 1924, in White County, he was the son of the late Wiley M. and Maybelle Thompson Dean. Mr. Dean was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, having served in the South Pacific in the 43rd Infantry; there, he earned and received the Purple Heart medal. Mr. Dean was a retired employee of Schnadig Furniture Manufacturing with 32 years of service. He was a long-time member of Chattahoochee Baptist Church. Mr. Dean was an avid golfer and had a deep love for his community. Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, was in charge of arrangements.

Gailey, Robin Leona
Graveside services for Robin Leona Gailey, 21, of Baldwin will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at New Birth Baptist Church with the Rev. George McKenzie officiating. Miss Gailey died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at her residence following a sudden illness. Born in Jackson County, she was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Mauldin Gailey; daughter, Christina Stokes; sister, Candy Michelle Gailey; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gailey Sr.; and grandfather, Hubert Mauldin. Miss Gailey was a member of New Birth Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Barrett Funeral Home, Cleveland, is in charge of arrangements. 

Gulick, Amberlyn Lou
Funeral services for Amberlyn Lou Gulick, 4, of Cleveland were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Garry Garrison officiating. Private burial was held at B.C. Grant Baptist Church Cemetery. Miss Gulick died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at Scottish-Rite Hospital following injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Hall County on Nov. 28, 2001, she was preceded in death by her grandfather, Richard W. Gulick; and her great-grandfather, William "Buck" Buchanan. McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.

Harper, Eva M.
Funeral services for Eva M. Harper, 81, of Clarkesville will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 7, at the chapel of Barrett Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Mote officiating. Burial will follow in Gateway Memory Park.  Mrs. Harper died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at her residence following an extended illness. Born in White County, she was the daughter of the late Wilborn and Bertha Palmer West. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Harper; brothers, T.J. West, Roy West, Buddy West, Hoyt West; sisters, Kathy Howard and Polly Hendrix. Mrs. Harper was of the Methodist faith. Barrett Funeral Home, Cleveland, is in charge of arrangements.

Harris, Rosalyn
Funeral services for Rosalyn Grant Harris, 85, of Klamath Falls, Ore., was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Bible Baptist Church, Klamath Falls, Ore., with her son-in-law, Pastor Keith Hansen, officiating. Mrs. Harris died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, at home in Klamath Falls, Ore. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Joseph T. and Mary Grant; her first husband, Bron Barrett of Demorest, who was killed in World War II; son, Alan Harris; twin brother, Joseph T. Grant Jr.; brothers, Richard R. Grant, George G. Grant, Calloway W. Grant; sisters, Betty Gibbs and Maryann Hull. Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Klamath Falls, Ore., was in change of arrangements.

Hawkins, Charlie L.
Funeral services for Charlie L. Hawkins, 84, of Clarkesville will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Clarkesville. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville. Mr. Hawkins died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006. Mr. Hawkins was a retired maintenance worker with First National Bank (Wachovia). He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of Snellville Lions Club and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at Hillside Memorial Chapel, Clarkesville. Hillside Memorial Chapel, Clarkesville, is in charge of local arrangements. 

Howard, Dorothy Louise English
Funeral services for Dorothy Louise English Howard, 78, of Toccoa were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Mize officiating. Burial followed in Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery in Habersham County. Mrs. Howard died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Oak Heritage Nursing Home in Baldwin. Born Feb. 25, 1928, in Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late Ira Isaac and Lola McClure English. She was a retired homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Acree-Davis Funeral Home, Toccoa, was in charge of arrangements.

Hutchinson, Nora Albert
Memorial services for Nora Albert Hutchinson, 88, of Alto and formerly of Lake City, Fla., will be held at a later date in Lake City, Fla. Mrs. Hutchinson died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at Habersham County Medical Center. Born on Nov. 5, 1917, in Fall River, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Mary Albert. Mrs. Hutchinson was a homemaker. Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, is in charge of arrangements.

Loudermilk, Larkin Harold
Funeral services for Larkin Harold Loudermilk, 82, of Mt. Airy will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Hazel Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Wright and the Rev. Trent Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with the Rev. Billy Burrell officiating and full military honors and Masonic rites.

McDonald, Rev. George
Funeral services for the Rev. George McDonald, 67, of Clarkesville will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Mize officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jason Holbrooks officiating. The Rev. McDonald died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A complete obituary will be announced later. Palmer, William Bradley
Graveside services for William Bradley Palmer, 69, of Dahlonega and formerly of Habersham County, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, in Yonah Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bobby G. Dollar officiating.

Porter, Harold Alfred
Graveside services for Harold Alfred Porter, 77, of Cornelia, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Butch Franklin and Dr. C. Harry Rudasill officiating, and with full military honors. Mr. Porter died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006. Born in Eldorado, Ark., on Jan. 14, 1929, he was the son of the late James Alfred and Henrietta Laura Bowles Porter. Mr. Porter was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps, whose patriotism to America and love of life will be remembered by all. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church and Mt. Airy Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Camp Creek Baptist Church, 1761 Camp Creek Road, Cornelia, GA 30531; or to Mt. Pruitt, Paul W.
Funeral services for Paul W. Pruitt, 78, of Baldwin, were held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Vandiver and the Rev. Alvin Oakes officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery, with the Rev. Scott Slaton officiating at the graveside. Mr. Pruitt died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at Habersham County Medical Center. Born on May 1, 1928, in Due West, S.C., he was the son of the late Holbert and Cleo Brock Pruitt. He also was preceded in death by his brothers, Vance Pruitt and Jack Pruitt; and his sister, Myrtle Smith. Mr. Pruitt was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and was a Mason. He was a bus driver and truck driver with 27 years of service. Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, was in charge of arrangements.

Roper, Mary Wofford
Funeral services for Mary Wofford Roper, 76, of Gainesville, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Peachtree Memorial Gardens in Norcross. Mrs. Roper died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Oliver Wofford and Elva Thomas Wofford. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Roper. Mrs. Roper was retired from Lay's as a secretary in accounting. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and also a member of the Gainesville Senior Citizen Center. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10. Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, is in charge of arrangements.

Smith, Hazel Gee
Funeral services for Hazel Gee Smith, 63, of Cornelia, will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19, at the chapel of Barrett Funeral Home, Cleveland, with the Rev. Sanford Kimbrell and the Rev. Ralph Smith officiating.

Thompson, Thelma Peyton
No services are planned at this time for Thelma Peyton Thompson, 87, of Albany. Mrs. Thompson died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital. Born on April 1, 1919, in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late Reynolds R. and Addie Lee Payne Peyton. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Olin Thompson; and her sister, Winnie Weaver. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Line Baptist Church and was bookkeeper for a pecan broker. She was the last of her immediate family. Mrs. Thompson's wishes were to be cremated. Whitfield Funeral Homes, South Chapel, Baldwin, is in charge of arrangements.

Watson, Vermon
Funeral services for 1st Sgt. Vermon Watson, 77, of Demorest will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Taylor and the Rev. Russ Barker officiating. The body will be placed in the church beginning at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Weaver, Paul Douglas
Funeral services for Paul Douglas Weaver, 57, of Demorest were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Brady and the Rev. Connie Berry officiating. Burial followed in Unity Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Weaver died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, at his residence following a sudden illness. Born in Habersham County on Sept. 12, 1949, he was the son of the late Seaborn and Thelma Barrett Weaver. He also was preceded in death by his daughter, Paula Darlene Weaver. Mr. Weaver was a self-employed carpenter who enjoyed riding in the mountains and hanging out at the Waffle House. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church. McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.

Welborn, Mary Glenn Manley
Funeral services for Mary Glenn Manley Welborn, 61, of Cornelia, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Tim Beasley officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Welborn died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta. Born on July 25, 1945, in Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late Jay Herman and Mary Lou Marcus Manley. She also was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Nancy Marcus, who reared her in their home. Ms. Welborn was a member of First Baptist Church of Cornelia. She was a graduate of South Habersham High School and was employed at Belk's in Cornelia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8. Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, is in charge of arrangements.

Wren, Frances F. Hutto
CAYCE, S.C. - Funeral services for Frances F. Hutto Wren, 67, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, S.C., with the Rev. Junior Roland officiating. Burial followed in Olympia Cemetery. Mrs. Wren died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006. Born in Ayersville, on Jan. 22, 1939, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Lois Vivian Bunch Smith. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Smith; sister, Gladys Galloway; and her first husband and father of her children, Frank E. Hutto Sr. Mrs. Wren attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and was employed as an in-home caregiver for the elderly. Thompsons Funeral Home, West Columbia, S.C., was in charge of arrangements.
