Based on the maps shown here, it appears
Haralson County (along with neighboring Paulding County) voted
heavily (80% to 90%) for Buchanan. In neighboring Carroll County,
Buchanan won by a smaller margin (70% to 80%). But in neighboring
Polk County, Fillmore won a majority of the vote. It should not
surprise anyone Fremont did not win any counties in 1856 Georgia;
by then it long was dangerous merely to speak against slavery,
let alone run as an elector pledged to a candidate who wanted to
use the government to prevent its expansion.
