OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE EVELYN SANFORD-WADE HOME
We are indeed excited about the good possibility of purchasing the EVELYN WADE HOME in Buchanan, Ga. USA (located diagonally across the GA 120 - US 27 intersection from the Haralson County Historic Courthouse). This is an ideal place for a MUSEUM, housing the legacy of Evelyn Sanford Wade, as well as other important elements of our educational and family histories. With the needs of the Library and other present needs, and those expected in the future, we require more space for a MUSEUM than is available within the Historic Courthouse alone.
The purchase price of $180,000 is based on an appraisal by a certified real estate appraiser. With a major gift by the seller (Mr. Jimmy Pope) of $80,000, and the coming appropriation of $50,000 from the Legislature, we are within $50,000 of having the purchase price. Additionally, there are of course closing costs, and we want to secure pledges for the annual maintenance costs, and possible operating costs.
Can we do it? With your assistance, and the good Lord’s help, I believe we can! Here is a proposed plan for your study and input:

In addition to the purchase price, we will need commitments for maintenance estimated at $300-500 monthly, including insurance, utilities, yards, etc. So, in our contacts we will ask for pledges toward the purchase as well and annual donations for operations.
My hope is that the Class of '48 will again lead the way with a Challenge gift. I am pledging $1,000; Jimmy Matthews is pledging $1,000 over two years, and I have another tentative pledge of $1,000 to confirm. We are hoping to hear from other members of the class of ’48 with pledges within 10 days so that we can get a letter to all BHS Alumni with the challenge gift. Please give me your suggestions.
