Historic Courthouse in Buchanan
site of feature-length movie filming

The Historic Courthouse in Buchanan, a National-Historic-Register-listed building leased and operated by the Haralson County Historical Society, will be the site of location shooting by the forthcoming feature-length film, Dixie Times, on July 20-22, 2008. The Society regrets this extremely short notice to the media and public, having consented to the producer's shooting request tendered on Monday, after preliminary negotiations in the preceding months.

The film and its script is the creation of northwest Georgia resident and aspiring movie maker Ken Wheeler, who explains his fictional story is a "redneck" comedy with a redemptive message which is "a true depiction of how we live in the rural South."

The plot revolves around fictional rural Alabama journalist Alice Bently, who writes for the eponymous Dixie Times and dreams of breaking a big story. She gets her chance as a local moonshiner assumes the post of sheriff when nobody else wants the job and unexpected events unfold.

More information on the film is available at Mr. Wheeler's Website at

The movie’s crew is looking for extras for the three days of filming at the Historic Courthouse. Aspiring extras should wear casual clothing. More information is available by e-mailing

In November 2007, Mr. Wheeler also told the Society he could be reached via telephone at 770-639-7549 or via e-mail at
