The July 10, 2006 meeting of the Haralson County Historical Society was called to order by President Karen Higgins. Following is a list of those present at the meeting: Jeri Ezell Terrell McBrayer John Norton Karen Steed Ron Feigenblatt Allen Poole Barry Newman Helen Higgins Karen Higgins Jana Gentry Peggy Kimball Clovis Momon Gloria Pope There was considerable discussion about the Purchase of the Wade House. Some still expressed misgivings about the endeavor. Allen Poole was present to express his support of the venture but did question the cost. He did, however, say that he would support the Historical Society in whatever they decided to do. The committee of 15 members will assume all responsibility for the purchase, operation, and maintenance of the Wade House. We seem to have community support, with several donations already. The understanding is that the trustees will draft a charter making clear all of their duties and responsibilities. The following statement was drafted to present to Mr. Pope: The Historical Society agrees to act as an umbrella organization to the purchase of the Wade House provided the Wade House Heritage Trustees (the committee of 15) assume full responsibility for the purchase, operation, maintenance and financing of the Wade House. After all this discussion the motion was made to vote on whether to go forward with this endeavor. The vote was 8 for, and 2 were still against. We are proceeding. Our treasurer, Ann Bannister, has had to resign. Jana Gentry has generously volunteered to assume her duties. The motion was made and seconded, with a unanimous vote, to accept her offer. The motion was also made and seconded, again with a unanimous vote, to thank Ann for all her hard work with a gift of flowers to be sent to her. We discussed the updated prices of our books: History Book-- $30.00 Cemetery Book-- 30.00 _______________________ Both Books-- $60.00 The motion was also made and accepted, with a unanimous vote, to give a History book to anyone making a donation of $100.00 or more. We discussed the Fall Festival to be held Saturday September 26, 2006.This will be our Sesquicentennial Birthday Bash (150 years.) Plans are progressing for the festivities. We had a wedding over the weekend here at the courthouse. There was a problem with the courthouse not being locked up properly afterwards. From now on we need to make up a check list for before and after use of courthouse for anyone using the premises. We will also have to require a security deposit and designate a society member to come up and make sure everything has been taken care of properly. The front doors of the building are sticking again. We need to check into replacing them. We need to thank Mary Jarrell and also Johnny Sue for all of their hard work. Ron Feigenblatt is going to purchase a re-charger for the batteries used in the camera and video camera. Joe Conley did visit and presented some historic documents to the Historical Society. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
