The August 14, 2006 meeting of the Haralson County Historical Society was called to order by President Karen Higgins. The following is a list of those present at the meeting: Jeri Ezell Karen Higgins John Norton Ron Feigenblatt Jana Gentry Helen Higgins Terrell McBrayer The minutes from the July meeting were read and approved. Jana gave the Treasurer's report: We have had an income this month of $2,155.00. Our balance is $7,258.12. We have a couple of outstanding bills (water and gas) that we have some questions about. We are going to check into them, but we will probably go ahead and pay them. Terrell tells us the air was fixed and it is still under warranty so we only have to pay for the shipping and labor. The bill was $368.00. Motion was unanimous to pay it. It has been quite hot. We are checking into replacing the missing shingles on the roof. There was also a unanimous vote to hire someone to come in 4 hours a week to clean the courthouse. We need to have a reliable, consistent person that we can depend upon. Terrell also tells us that we have done quite well with the Wade House endeavor so far. They have taken in $4,800 in cash, and have pledges for $1,200 to $2,000 more. We discussed the Fall Festival/Sesquicentennial Birthday Bash: We've had lots of applications already, and we'll get lots more. We have to have them back by the first of September. We talked about having a mock election. We're planning to raffle a $250.00 prize at $1.00 per ticket or 5 tickets for $5.00 We discussed several suggestions for who might cut the cake at the birthday bash, mostly agreeing that the Grand Marshall in the Parade should have the honor. Therefore, we also discussed who our Grand Marshall should be. We also discussed having our organizers wearing period clothing. Our sausage is being donated and we have decided to try the frozen biscuits this year. Ron tells us the Hungarian Colony marker has been restored [via an online photo proxy]. After some discussion the motion was unanimous to once again join the Georgia Historical Society at a cost of $50.00. We have also decided after some discussion to send Karen to a grant writing class in Fort Valley Georgia. The motion was made and seconded, with a unanimous vote, to pay her fee in going, for the benefit of the Historical Society There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
