The September 11, 2006 meeting of the Haralson County Historical Society was called to order by President Karen Higgins. The following ten people were present: Terrell McBrayer Karen Higgins John Norton Peggy Kimball Jeri Ezell Clovis Momon Ron Feigenblatt Sean McIntire Frank McIntire Jana Gentry The minutes from the August 14, 2006 meeting were read and approved. Jana gave the Treasurer's report. Our balance was $8,539.34. She has also found some one to come in to do the cleaning. After some discussion, the motion was made and seconded with a unanimous vote to open a debit card account for Jana and Karen to use as needed. The motion was made and seconded with a unanimous vote to accept Jana's report. Terrell gave the building report: Replacement of part of the roof is planned. The elevator is in good condition. The $15,000.00 vault grant has to go through the Regional Library. We received some correspondence from the Augusta Genealogical Society. We discussed preliminary plans for the Pumpkin Caper to be held on Thursday October 26, 2006. We discussed the Wade House. Wade House Heritage Trustees still have money coming in. A resolution authorizing this group to proceed with the endeavor was presented. Motion was made and seconded, with one vote against proceeding and all other votes for going ahead with the purchase of the Wade House. We got our Georgia Historical Society membership. They sent us several interresting items, including some booklets and pamphlets. We need to think about possible themes for future festivals. Having a theme this year brought out a tremendous crowd.. Karen mentioned the idea of making a time capsule. We need to check into this to see if it is feasible for us and how we could do it. We will discuss this more next month. John Norton sent in a Grant request for $17,000.00 to West Georgia Foundation for blinds, a front door, and insulation for the attic and basement. We discussed the possibility of giving a $100.00 scholarship to a high school student. We're hoping to generate some interest in the Historical Society by our young people by getting some student volunteers to come help out either in the genealogical library, at the Pumpkin Caper, or even the Festival of Trees coming up in the near future. We discussed the Festival in its entirety. All is set to go. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
