The March 12, 2007 meeting of the Haralson County Historical Society was called to order by President Karen Higgins. The Minutes from the February 12, 2007 meeting were approved as read. Jana Gentry gave the Treasurer’s report. After income and expenses our balance was $7,940.62. The following fifteen people were present: Karen Higgins Peggy Kimball John Norton Julia Norton Jana Gentry Terrell McBrayer Jeri Ezell Theresa Kimball Mary Jarrell Charles Jarrell Ron Feigenblatt Stephanie Jarrell Helen Higgins Lisa Tamasi Roy Black Terrell McBrayer updated us about the Little Creek One-Room School House Project. Of the suggested sites the most likely seems to be behind Buchanan City Hall. We have two estimates for moving it; we are waiting on the third. Terrell also told us there are three sizes of slate for the courthouse roof. We are checking to see which sizes we need. The new carpet in our downstairs meeting room looks great, but we will have to rewire the disabled computer networking outlet. Lighting upstairs is a concern. We need to check into new wiring in the rooms adjacent to the courtroom. Some of the doors upstairs need locks, too. We also need a ramp in the courtroom to make it all wheel chair accessible. We still need to get fencing around the air conditioner units outside because of safety and vandalism concerns. We need to plan a budget for next year. Executive Committee plans to meet early next month to discuss the budget. GEMA still says we owe them money. We have contested this but have heard nothing back from them. The consensus is that we ask Senator Heath to intervene on our behalf to see if he can find out what is going on. Theresa Kimball was welcomed as our new member. John and Troi Addams stopped by to present to us the two DVD discs they had made by scanning all of the marriage license records we had in the Genealogy Room. We discussed again plans for the upcoming County history book. Lisa Tamasi showed us an example of what she might be able to do with it. Karen affirmed she would order the computer gear Ron recommended be bought for the Genealogy Room for jobs like the Addams' and history book projects. After some consideration we have decided to keep our operating year the same as it has always been, from June to June, with dues due on or before June 1st. We discussed which fundraiser items to go with, to sell at festivals, etc. in order to increase our Scholarship (Endowment) Fund. Our plan is to raise $1,000, give $500, and invest $500. Even though the Historic Courthouse is under the County’s insurance, we need our own coverage for contents. We’re going to check with Farm Bureau. In the mean time, Ron will do a video of the contents of the courthouse. We discussed festival themes. One suggestion was to feature a different craft each year, like quilting, etc. Another idea was gold prospecting; Ron and Roy are trying to contact Mike LaConta and GPAA to ask about this. Ron is still trying to transcribe annotations of the video "Buchanan On Parade", and not having much luck finding any help. Theresa Kimball has generously offered to help within the $100 budget previously approved. John Norton tells us the men will come this week to measure the front doors of the Historic Courthouse and will be back next week to start work on them. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Minutes submitted, Jeri Ezell Secretary 3/12/07
