The April 9, 2007 meeting of the Haralson County Historical Society was called to order by President Karen Higgins. The Minutes from the March 12, 2007 meeting were approved as read. Jana Gentry gave the Treasurer’s report. Our balance after income and expenses is $8,175.90. The following thirteen people were present: Peggy Kimball Ron Feigenblatt Rosanna Birky Bob Birky Terrell McBrayer Jeri Ezell Karen Higgins Jana Gentry John Norton Mary Jarrell Charles Jarrell Helen Higgins Stephanie Jarrell We discussed our proposed budget for the coming year. We are still checking into insurance options. We talked about the Streetscape plans once again. We are still waiting to hear from FEMA. Charles Jarrell has agreed to take over once again as our Building Chairman. The slate for the roof is a little more expensive than we expected ($200.00 /w shipping) so we are looking into other options. We have given John Norton the OK to proceed with the doors. Karen ordered velour ropes and hooks for the jury box, to replace the existing plastic tape, in an effort to discourage people from entering. Terrell McBrayer presented a copy of "The History of Floyd College", which he donated to our Genealogical Library. We are sending Ron Feigenblatt to Savannah to receive the Georgia Historical Society’s Roger K. Warlick Local History Achievement Award in the category of Media Projects for his 1856 Handbook. Even though DBR is doing the Spring Festival we are going to sell sausage biscuits for it. Stephanie Jarrell has volunteered to be the bookkeeper for the scholarship fund for the Clovis B. Momon Scholarship Endowment Fund. The GPAA gold miners plan to come to the Spring Festival. We still want them for the Fall Festival as well. Ron told us about a song written in Draketown and still sung today, which will be played and sung at the Fall Festival. Terrell tells us that there will be a yard sale the day of the Fall Festival to benefit the Wade House. John Norton suggested putting banners in all the towns in the county each time one of them has a festival. This would involve serious cooperation from all the towns, and it would be great. He is going to talk to Coke and Pepsi to see if they might help out with the cost of the banners. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Minutes submitted, Jeri Ezell Secretary 4/9/07
