The August 14, 2007 meeting of the Haralson County Historical Society was called to order by President Karen Higgins. The Minutes from the July 9, 2007 meeting were approved as read. Jana Gentry gave the Treasurer’s report. Our balance after income and expenses was $8,705.11. We discussed her questions about our liability insurance coverage. Also, Terrell McBrayer informed us that the tax forms have been filled out by the C.P.A. and filed with the I.R.S. The following twelve people were present: Jeri Ezell Terrell McBrayer Naomi Black Jana Gentry Frank McIntire Ron Whelan Charles Jarrell Stephanie Jarrell Karen Higgins Mary Jarrell Peggy Kimball Lisa Tamasi Terrell McBrayer gave us an updated financial report on the Little Creek School House, and the Sanford Wade Heritage House. He also told us how the restoration of the schoolhouse is coming along after the move. Our visitor, Ron Whelan, gave a short presentation on reverse mortgages. The motion was made and seconded, with a unanimous vote, to have him return after the Festival and give an actual presentation that we have a chance to advertise in advance. We think a lot of people would be interested in hearing what he has to say. The front doors are finished. When John Norton returns Charles Jarrell and John will go get them. Charles also priced fencing. The motion was made and seconded, with a unanimous vote, to go with the Architectural Decorative fencing. It looks better with the historic structure of the building. The bid was $2,475. Charles is going to get a second bid, then send the bids to the Commissioners to see if they will help with the cost. Charles also told us it is possible to buy programmable thermostats. We are not going to change anything at this time. We discussed, again, cooperating with the Master Gardeners on the slope. Stephanie Jarrell updated us on the Scholarship Fund: She is going to the bank to find out about the charges on the account. We discussed the Fair on the Square. The theme is "Welcome to ’57". Key Ingredients: Karen Higgins and I told about our trip to Macon to learn about the Smithsonian Exhibit coming to town. It was great! History Book: Lisa Tamasi got the software she needed. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Jeri Ezell Secretary August 14, 2007
