The Minutes from the November 12, 2007 meeting were approved as read. Jana was not able to be here so Karen gave the Treasurer's report. Our balance was $10,426.70. The following ten people were present: Jeri Ezell Frank McIntire Stephanie Jarrell Peggy Kimball Horace Kimball Charles Jarrell Ron Feigenblatt Terrell McBrayer Karen Higgins Buster Biggers Building Report: We have the slate and materials for the roof, we just need a boom truck to lift the worker high enough to do the job. We also plan to trim the trees at the same time. We are checking into possibilities. We want to thank Charles Jarrell for installing the ceiling fans upstairs. He did a great job. We've been told by Roy Black that it will cost about $8,000 to replace the storm windows in the Courtroom upstairs. Karen plans to check into grants to help pay for it. Mary Jarrell has grant money that she has used to put blinds in many of the windows. She would like to use some of the money she has left to have the back door sanded and refinished. When checking into our phone problems we discovered that we are supposed to have a separate phone line for the elevator. We plan to check with the State Inspector to find out exactly what our responsibility is. Terrell McBrayer gave us the updated financial reports for the Sanford Wade Heritage House and the Little Creek School House. They are still working on the repairs for the Wade House. They have found the wood for the School House. They just need the time to finish the project. Festival of Trees: It was a success. We had some nice trees. We also had a gift basket we were giving away. From the survey questions on the raffle tickets we obtained the names of fifteen people who would like to volunteer to help out and forty-three people who would like to be placed on our mailing list. Karen was contacted by the paper and placed an article there telling all about what the Historical Society has done for the last year. Ron Feigenblatt discussed the need for a photo-copy-stand. After some discussion the motion was made and seconded, with a unanimous vote, to allow the purchase of one, and also to look into the purchase of a new camera to use with it. Terrell made a motion that we check with Lisa Tamasi to find out her progress on the History book. Karen told us that she is still waiting to hear back about the railroad ties. As soon as we get them we can get the front bank secured. Stephanie Jarrell gave us a Scholarship update. We got a $500 donation among others. We now have approximately $1,000.00 in the scholarship fund. We discussed the need for new Vision and Mission statements and how important they are when applying for grants. Peggy Kimball was presented with a plaque naming her our County Family Historian. Another framed copy will hang in the Genealogy Library. [See the related Web page at: http://hchistory.com/thanks/PeggyCFH.htm -RF] We discussed applying for grant money to put blinds in the rest of the upstairs windows. It would be nice to be able to show movies upstairs, possibly have family movie nights. We discussed having art exhibits, and what all we would need. We could possibly have one at the Wade House during the Spring Festival. We talked about Honorary Memberships. The motion was made and seconded, with a unanimous vote, to delete any charge for Honorary Members. The Bylaws say to vote on this in May, however, so this has been tabled till later. The first meeting for Key Ingredients will be February 29, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. We discussed having T-shirts made for Historical Society members to wear to events, and possibly to sell as a fund raiser. Frank McIntire is checking into it for us. He thinks it will only cost about $9.00 a shirt, with an iron on transfer. Frank brought in a jar full of money which he had collected for the Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Jeri Ezell Secretary January 14, 2008
