Irwin County Mailing List & Other Helpful Lists

There are several mailing lists that pertain to Irwin County and Georgia as well as help for researchers through Rootsweb.   These mailing lists come in the form of two modes: List and Digest.

The List mode (L) would be for individuals who do not mind receiving many emails throughout the day, however, for most the Digest mode would be more ideal.

The Digest mode (D) is one email sent to the subscriber with all messages sent through the list for a period of time.  This option cuts down on email as it is sent in one email with bulk messages to the specified list.  Listed below is information about the Irwin County mail list and other mail lists that may be helpful through county, state, surname, etc. mail lists and queries.  These mail lists are provided by Rootsweb.

  • For questions about this list, contact the list administrator at GAIRWIN-admin@rootsweb.com
  • Subscribing. Clicking on one of the shortcut links below should work, but if your browser doesn't understand them, try these manual instructions to join GAIRWIN-L, sent mail to GAIRWIN-L-request@rootsweb.com with the single word subscribe in the message subject and body of email.  To join GAIRWIN-D, do the same thing with GAIRWIN-D-request@rootsweb.com
  • Unsubscribing. To leave GAIRWIN-L, send mail to GAIRWIN-L-request@rootsweb.com with the single word unsubscribe in the message subject and body.  To leave GAIRWIN-D, do the same thing with GAIRWIN-D-request@rootsweb.com
  • Posting Messages.  Only post a message to GAIRWIN-L@rootsweb.com, do not use the request email.  The message(s) posted will relect on the List and Digest modes.  Please use the list for Irwin County inquiries only.
  • Archives.  You can search the archives for a specific message or browse them, going from one message to another.  Some list archives are not available; if there is a link there to an archive, but the link doesn't work, it probably means that no messages have been posted to that list yet.

Rootsweb List
  • This is the Grand Old List itself, with almost a decade of continuous operation and almost 10000 subscribers. **Traffic is high on ROOTS-L: if you subscribe, expect to receive a hundred or more messages each day gathered into three to ten 40KB digests.**
Genealogy Newbies
  • This list is the perfect list for beginners -- no question is too elementary and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. A number of the oldies hang out here, too, and help when they can. **Traffic is typically about 20 messages a day.**
