John Mordecai Pruitt. Looking for information on above person who supposedly died in the town of Jackson, Ga (or in Jackson Co., Ga) about April 17, 1918. Is Jackson, Ga. located in Jackson County or in another county? He reportedly was buried outside of Henderson, Rusk County, Texas but it is stated he died in Ga. Were bodies transported for burial for such a long distance back in the early 1900's?
Would appreciate any info about subject or protocol on moving bodies during this era.

Gillispie, Gillespie Ladonna Viertel 19 Mar 1998
I'm looking for Gillispie or Gillespie families in the Jackson County area in the mid 1800s. My great grandfather was James Edward Gillispie born August 1860. I'm told he had brothers named Thomas and Hampton and a sister named Julia. Unfortunately, I don't have James' parents names and that is what is making my research so difficult. I was told by an aunt that James was born in Harmony Grove, South Carolina but after weeks of looking for his family there, I am convinced they didn't come from there. A few nights ago while browsing the net, I discovered that there was a Harmony Grove, Georgia in Jackson County. It would make much more sense that James was from there because he married Smyra Lula Stephens from Madison County, just next door. They married about 1887. So now I am turning my search to Georgia. If you can find anything on James' parentage, I can go forward (backward?) with my research.
Thanks,
Ladonna Viertel

ADAMS Jim Adams 18 Feb 1998
I am looking for any information on a Milley ADAMS born before 1785, shows on 1820 census in Capt. Mayes district. She drew on the 1821 land lottery as a widow. She bought 35 acres on Hardman creek in 1816. A Jesse HARRIS paid her taxes in1821 And a Thomas ADAMS paid them in 1823. I believe him to be of her sons. The others are Salathiel ADAMS born 1799 in North Carolina and John born 1790 North Carolina. Jesse HARRIS is married (1811) to a Livinia ADAMS, a possible daughter. I have been unable to find any record of her husband's name yet. She disappears after 1823 when I believe the sons moved to Dekalb County. John is paying the taxes on the land lot she drew in Dooley County on 1846 tax records for Dekalb County. From what I can tell it wasn't claimed until 1837. I believe Thomas was born 1805 in Georgia so they were here between 1799 - 1805. I also find a Benjamin F. ADAMS in Dooley County on 1850 census with a son named Salathiel 6 yrs. old. Not on the same land lot as Milley's though. Haven't been able to tie him to the family for sure yet. Any.information you can help me with would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

OSBERN (OSBORN?) Robert Osborne 12 Jan 1998
Martin Van Buren OSBERN (OSBORN?) was my great grandfather, and the 1850 Georgia census (Jackson County) shows that his mother was Priscilla OSBERN. I am seeking information about Priscilla and/or her husband (unknown name?). The census does not show him living with the family- dead? divorced? I am unable to find any marriage record for Priscilla who likely would have been married in 1831 or 1832. She was 46 at the time of the 1850 census, and my great grandfather was 13 y/o. Priscilla's birth location was South Carolina according to the census. This is as far back as we have been able to trace our family...to Priscilla. Can anyone help me?
