Elisha Sartain, second son of John Sartain, Sr. Elisha Sartain was born in 1797 and died after 1840. He married Frances "Fanny" Bond, daughter of Richard Cox Bond, Sr. and Susannah Mays. John and Fanny Bond Sartain had eight children listed as follows: 1- Alfred Sartain born 1826 in Madison County. He married Amanda "Mandy" Elmira Beard in Madison County on 10 Jan 1850. Mandy was born in 1826. She was the daughter of Samuel F. Beard & Elizabeth McEver. 2- Manda Sartain born 1828 [No further info] 3- Hellica Sartain born 1830 in Madison County. She married Lewis P. Scarborough 24 Jan 1856 in Franklin County, GA. He was the son of Frederick Scarborough, Jr. and Elizabeth Brannon. 4- Lewis Sartain born 1833 in Madison County; died 11 Aug 1863 in Richmond, Virginia during the Civil War. He married Martha Auntney [Antionete] Beard on 21 Sep 1854 in Madison County. Martha was born 23 Oct 1833 in Madison County. She was the daughter of Samuel F. Beard and Elizabeth McEver. Martha died 23 Mar 1913 in Gibtown, Texas. 5- Martha Sartain born 1835 [No further info] 6- Gilford Sartain born 1838 in Madison County. He died in 1869 and is buried at Millshoal Baptist Church in Madison County. He married Sarah A. Margaret Scarborough in Madison County on 5 Nov 1858. Sarah was born in 1844 and died in 1881. She was the daughter of Freedrick Scarbrough, Jr. and Elizabeth Brannon. 7- Lucy Sartain b. 1841 [no further info] 8- Larkin Sartain birth date unknown. He married Permely Cape 4 Nov 1847 in
Franklin County, GA. He died in 1862 during the Civil War. John Sartain, Jr., third son of John Sartain, Sr. John Sartain, Jr. was born ca. 1798. He married twice. His first wife was Nelly Bond, daughter of Richard Cox Bond, Sr. and Susannah Mays. John and Nelly were married in Elbert County on 20 Dec 1821. Nelly died in Mississippi. John's second wife was Heziah (maiden name unknown). John and Heziah had no children. John died in August 1869 in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. The issue of John & Nelly Sartain are as follows. 1- Russell Sartain born 1828 in Madison Co. He married [1] Melvina (maiden name unknown). He married [2] Martha A. Beard Sartain, widow of his double 1st cousin, Lewis Sartain. 2- Crawford Sartain born 1830 3- Morris Sartain born 1832 4- Henry Sartain born 1834. He was killed in the Civil War and was mentioned in one of Russell Sartains letters to his wife. 5- Elizabeth Annie Sartain born 30 Jul 1837 in Mississippi; died 29 Oct 1921 in Katy, OK. She married Henry W. Garvin on 16 May 1851. Henry was born 28 Jun 1833 and died 21 Feb 1909 in Katy, OK. 6- Lindsey Sartain born 1840 Alfred Sartain, first son of Elisha Sartain Alfred Sartain was born 1826 in Madison County. He married Amanda "Mandy" Elmira Beard in Madison County on 10 Jan 1850. Mandy was born in 1826. She was the daughter of Samuel F. Beard & Elizabeth McEver. Alfred and Amanda Beard Sartain had three children and one foster son, listed as follows: 1- Martha I. "Mattie" Sartain born 1850. She married Ben Ace Fortson in Madison County on 29 Nov 1881. He was the son of Richard and Lucy Jane Fortson. 2- Samuel Elisha Brittian Sartain born 22 Jun 1861 in Madison County; died 5 Feb 1908 and was buried at Jones Chapel in Danielsville, Madison County, GA. He married Sarah Alice Bond David, widow of William "Billy" David, on 13 Feb 1887. Sarah Alice was the daughter of Nathan Collins Bond & Sarah Adeline Guest. 3- Elizabeth "Lizzie" P. Sartain born 1 Apr 1867; died 8 Mar 1884. She is buried at Jones Chapel Church in Madison County near her parents. 4- Child raised in the home: Joel Hughs, born 1852. He was the son of James Hughs and Delaney Dean. I've not yet learned what happened to Joels parents. They did not turn up in the 1860 census, but their children did: Elizabeth J. Hughs age 16, and Albany Hughs, age 6 months, enumerated in the household of their uncle James Dean and his wife, Prudence Beard. James was the brother of Delaney Dean, the mother of all three children. Jamess wife, Prudence, was the sister of Amanda Beard, wife of Alford Sartain.
