February 16, 1862
Dear Brother I set myself down to write to you to let you know that we are both
are well hoping this will come safe to hand and find you and family all well I can tell
you I have got well of the yellow jaundice we are billing best work I think we will have
to fight in a day or two I dont know what to write I stood guard last night and it did
rain all night and slept none You know how I felt to stand all night I run the blockade
Warren can tell you all about it I can slip over the lines and go to town I wrote to
father I would send you and him some money, 82 dollars a piece I will send you a four
dollar bill in this letter Give father 2 dollars Dock tell old McCravys folks to write F.
H. so they need not write to me I dont care a dam I am well satisfied we had 15 men in the
guard tent last night. T. F. West was drunk last night I ever say him He rad and pitch but
could not jump John T. Bradley has not come yet Dock you must write to me every week and
let me know the time I have a bad to write____ with men in
(pg 2) one house 15 feet square so you may know whether I can write or not I
will do the best I can if you cant read this guess at it I will quit tonight maybe I will
study something by morning Dock I run the blockaid last night and went to town and stayed
til 12 o'clock and will close for this time Remain yours friend until death
