On this Seventeenth day of September in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and thirty
two personally appeared in open Court before John Mirony, Noah W. Pittman, James Anderson
and James Long, Justices of the Inferior Court now sitting as a Court of Ordinary,
Frederick Hawks, a resident of Capt. Colley's Company District of Georgia Militia in the
County of Madison & State of Georgia age eighty years who being first duly sworn
according to law -- doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the
benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.
That he entered the Service of the United States under the
following named Officer and served as hence states, to wit, he entered as a volunteer in
May he believes in 1777 under Capt. Tarrance House and served a tour of three weeks - he
afterward entered under Capt. Stephen Goodwin and served a tour of six weeks -- he
afterward served a tour under Capt. Holt of five weeks -- he afterward served a tour under
Capt. Baker Pegram three months and two weeks - he afterward served a tour under Capt.
Holt of one month at the siege of York - his first tour of duty under Capt. House of three
weeks he was marched to Cobham - the next term of six weeks under Capt. Goodwin he was in
a small engagement at the City Point and at Hoss Ferry with the British - the next term of
three months and two weeks under Capt. Pegram he was stationed at a place called Jericho
-- the one month tour under Capt. Holt he was marched to Goushland Court House guarding
prisoners then back to Petersburgh and was employed in killing beavers -- unloading carts
and loading vessels -- then to the seige of York and remained until Cornwallis surrendered
- then to Manchester to guard a magazine - he cannot recollect the year he entered the
service but has been particular in the service when called for untile peace he was
aquainted with Gen. Stueben - he has no documentary evidence and he knows of no evidence -
he can procure who can testify to his services - In answer to the Interrogations
prescribed by the War Department and propounded by the Court he answerith as follows, to
wit
Answer to first Inter. He was born in Dunwoody County in Virginia
the 22nd Jan 1752
Answer to Second - he has no record of his age
Answer to third - he was living in Brunswick County in Virginia
when he entered the service - he removed from there to Dunwoody County and continued there
untill after peace - when he left Virginia he moved to Warren County North Carolina - from
there to Madison County Georgia where he now resides.
Answer to fourth - he Volunteered
Answer to fifth - he has stated in his declaration all he knows on
that subject.
Answer to sixth - he never received a discharge.
Answer to seventh - he refers you to Alexander Human - John W.
Moore -- Col. John Colley - Robert Woods -- James Blackhart
He hereby relinquishes every claim to a pension or annunity except
the present - and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any
State.

Frederick Hawks
I, Benjamin Brown, A Clergyman residing in the County of Madison,
and James Towns residing in the same hereby certify that we are well acquainted with
Frederick Hawks who has subjected & sworn to the above declaration - that we believe
him to be Eighty years of age and that he is reputed and believed in the neighborhood
where he resides to have been a soldier of the revolution - and that we concure in that
opinion.

and the said Court do hereby declare this opinion after the
investigation of the matter - and after putting the interrogation prescribed by the War
Department that the above named applicant was a Revolutionary Soldier and served as he
states - and the court further certifies that it appears to them that Benjamin Brown is a
clergyman resident in the county of Madison and that James Towns who has signed the same
is a resident of the same and is a credible person and that this statement is entitled to
credit.
