Hugh BRITT, Sr. circa 1765- circa 1840 served as a juror
in Madison County, 1813, his earliest record in that county. He had previously
lived in Edgefield County/Orangeburgh District, South Carolina. He had
four sons who married girls from Madison County - Ephriam married Polly
BRITT 1818; Hugh Jr. married Annie JORDAN 1817; William married Sarah SPICER1817;
Joel married Nancy SHIREY/SHIRRA 1821. Would like parent's names of the

I have been researching my husband's lines off and on for 20 years.
Have many POWER and GRIMES names, most connected to our line. The earliest
Power we have is Francis POWER, Sr. (died circa 1800) As he had
so many daughters, (as well as sons) there are probably a lot of people
with other surnames listed in Madison County who will trace back to him.
The other early ancestors I am searching are William GRIMES, father of
Thomas Miner GRIMES. Also Martin ROWE (who married Anna POWER GRIMES, widow
of Thomas Miner GRIMES.) I have lots of info on all of them and their descendants.
I hope to link up to others doing similar research. Thank you!

I recently discovered through the US Geological Survey maps that there is a MINISH, Georgia (probably a "spit and miss it" township) just outside of Commerce. It practically sits on the county line between Jackson and Madison, as near as I can tell. There also is a MINISH cemetary listed as well in the same location, and a MINISH Lake about 15 miles from the cemetary. I also discovered that a variation of the name, MINNISH, had a listing. There is a MINNISH cemetary about thirty miles from the MINISH cemetary at MINISH, Georgia. I also did a search of the US Geological Survey maps of ALLEN (which is my grandmothers surname). Not so surprisingly, there is an ALLEN family cemetary just a few miles north of the MINISH cemetary. Would you possibly have any information on that cemetary ?
I really would appreciate any assistance you could give to get me going on this. It seems I have been "stalled out" for a very long time.
Again, thank you for any assistance you might be able to offer.

My father's name is Guy MINISH (born 26 November 1932). His parents were William D. MINISH and Pearlie Mae Allen (born 30 October 1895, died 29 August 1981). Pearlie Mae's mother's first name was Grace or Gracie. William D.'s father's name may have been Jimmy or James. My father has many siblings, too numerous to list here. I suspect there is a family tie to an Isaac Minish who migrated to Commerce, Georgia in 1830 from Dorchester County, Maryland, however, I have not been able to substantiate this. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am also willing to share any and all information I have.

Hi, I am the granddaughter of Thomas Payne MURRAH. He lived in Comer, Georgia. and also in Carlton, Georgia. .....my mother was born in Carlton in 1917. I have been trying with no luck, to locate the place where my grandfather is buried. To the best of my knowledge, he died in either Comer or Carlton, but was buried in Athens. It would have been in the late 1930's or early 1940's. My Grandmother had moved to Florida with my mother and aunt in 1936. After that, there was no contact with my Grandfather so I have no way to be very specific with any more details. I know that my Grandmother's realitives are buried in the Old Fork Cemetery in Carlton. They were CURRUTH's. Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerly,
Susan Clouser.

If anyone is researching the POWER family in Georgia and South Carolina, I have data that I will be glad to share. I have very little on John POWER that moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas. The year and place of his birth are not positive but maybe. His parents Joseph & Isabella BALLEW POWER came into Georgia from Laurens District, South Carolina in 1816 and they came into Franklin County as per pension papers. I know a lot of the POWER family was born in Madison County, Georgia.

We're seeking information on a Samuel SMITH, who married Rebecca STEAPLER/STAPLER in 1818 in Madison County, Georgia. They were in Madison County and listed there in the 1820 and 1830 census. They were probably in Franklin County, Georgia, in 1840. We need whereabouts of Samuel and Rebecca in 1850, or later in Georgia or Alabama. The Alabama connection is possible because later family members are known to have come to Alabama.
Thanks in advance,

My oldest SORRELLS ancestor is Richard SORRELLS, born about 1744, Virginia and his wife, Mildred SNEAD, born about 1746, who married somewhere in Virginia abt 1773, and had two known children, William Alexander SORRELLS, born about 1774, Virginia and died prior to May 1841, Walton County, Georgia, according to estate records and land records. William married Dorcas SANDERS on 20 October 1797, Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Dorcas was born in Surry County, North Carolina, 21 November 1779, the daughter of Sarah TULLY and James SANDERS, Sr. who came to Oglethorpe County after the 1790 Surry County, North Carolina census in which they were found. The other child of Richard and Mildred was Charles SORRELLS, born December 1776, Virginia and died 12 July 1854, Walton County, Georgia.
He married (1) Elizabeth JONES, daughter of Anne BEASLEY and Russell JONES, who came to Georgia in early 1790's from Wilkes County, North Carolina, but who originated in Albemarle, Virginia. Richard SORRELLS served in the Revolution from Salisbury District of which Surry County was a part, so I looked at the tax lists 1782 and found him there in Capt. Humphries District and James SANDERS, Sr. was found there in numerous deeds and land entries. Surry County Deeds were searched and found no deeds or land entries for Richard, although he did have 100 acres in the tax list. The only record I have found for him and his sons together was the undated Elbert County, Georgia tax list (which was about 1797) In April 1800, Richard bought 126 1/2 acres from James COLBERT, land on Scullshoal Creek, Elbert County, Georgia. This land fell into Oglethorpe County later and Madison County, Georgia later on when county borders were changed.
Anyway, this Richard has numerous descendants today in Madison and in Walton County where Charles and William went about 1835 or so. Mildred died in Georgia about 1836. I would like to find out who his parents were and where in Virginia they came from. More information is available for anyone interested. In 1985 I published Our Southern Ancestors which details Richard and Mildred's descendants. I have done some general research in Virginia on SNEAD's and SORRELLS', but have been unable to find where my ancestors fit in.

I need information on the STREETMAN family in the Madison/Jackson County area between 1796-1850. My STREETMAN's were in Mississippi by 1850, in Itawamba County.
I believe the following were brothers: Jasper, Jehu B., John, Martin, and Williamson. Jehu B. STREETMAN was in Tishomingo County, Mississippi by 1860. He married Mary "Polly" STRICKLAND in 1826 in either Jackson or Madison County, Georgia. Williamson was in Itawamba County, Mississippi by 1850. His son, John R. STREETMAN, married Elizabeth CLAY in Itawamba County in 1849, and they were in Tishomingo County, Mississippi by 1880. So, I think all of them were closely related. Martin STREETMAN married Martha KEMP in Tishomingo County about 1853-55.
Hope you know someone who may be working on this family. I really appreciate your help. Thank you.

I am seeking someone who can give me a list of Alexander and Mary HODGES THOMPSON's children. I am a GGG Granddaughter of Gaines and Sarah RICE THOMPSON of Elbert County, Georgia. Gaines was born 1787 in North Carolina. Sarah was born in 1796 in North Carolina. I have census records from 1840 to 1870 of their residences in Elbert County. I suspect that Gaines is the son of Alexander THOMPSON. He had a brother (confirmed by estate settlement in Elbert County, Georgia) whose name was Joel THOMPSON and married Betsey SMITH. I know that William THOMPSON of Madison County who married Mary TILMAN is the son of Alexander. Also there is a Gaines THOMPSON in Madison County, Georgia census of 1850, that is 28 years of age. I cannot place him as a son of my Gaines THOMPSON by marks in the house in the early census record so I believe he is my Gaines' nephew and son of one of these Madison County THOMPSON's. The naming pattern in undeniable. William THOMPSON who married Mary TILMAN was 69 years of age in 1850 Madison County census and states born in North Carolina. Gaines was 63 years of age in 1850 Elbert County and Joel was between them in age in 1850. I looks as if they are brothers. Also can anyone determine if Alexander THOMPSON is related the other Revolutionary soldiers by the name of THOMPSON in this area, who were William, Peter and Isham THOMPSON??? Can anybody help with this family please.
