This is a hardback book with 363 pages and a complete index. Part I of the book gives the complete history of Co K (Ramsey Volunteers) including muster roll, battles, letters written by the commanding officers and some personal insight into the company as seen through the personal diary of one of the soldiers. Part II is VERY impressive! Each soldier is listed and not only is his service record and pension record recorded, Mr. Holley researched each soldier and has provided genealogical data including census records, birth, death and marriage information, children and occupation. All the information is footnoted with the sources given and a complete bibliography is included.
The Ramsey Volunteers came from rural Columbia Co which includes present day McDuffie Co. If you have any ancestors from McDuffie Co that were Confederate soldiers, you need this book. I have a copy of this book and I have throughly enjoyed it. Please see below for additional Confederate units that Mr. Holley has researched.

This is a hardback book with 616 pages and a complete index. This book is written in the same format as the Ramsey Volunteers. It also includes a special section which updates the information in the Ramsey Volunteers book. The indepth research that Mr. Holley has done on each individual soldier is incredible. This company was organized in Thomson and they left as a group to be mustered in Richmond, VA. Again, if you have McDuffie ancestors that served in the CSA, you need this book.
Company K, Hamilton Rangers, Forty-Eighth Regiment Georgia Volunteers, Army of Northern Virginia, Confederate States of America by Thomas Earl Holley
The material for this book is being researched by Mr. Holley now. I wanted to mention it because this is the third and last company that was mustered from present day McDuffie Co. It will be available sometime in the future. I have no doubt it will be as good as the first two books.

This is a hardback book with 278 pages and a complete index and bibliography. If you have ties to the Quakers in Wrightsborough, you need this book. It is a jewel! It contains all kinds of interesting information including the history of Wrightsborough, the original settlers and how many acres they had, birth and death records, minutes of the monthly meetings and information on indentured servants. This little book has proved itself quite useful in my own personal research.
A History of Dearing, McDuffie County, Georgia From 1850 to 1904 By A.J. Tayor With an Additional Chapter on Twenty-Five Years of Progress By "A Citizen"
This book is only available at the Axon service station/convenience store in Dearing. It costs a whopping $1.50. You will need to get a local to purchase it for you. You can try and talk someone on the McDuffie County e-mail list into getting the booklet for you. If you are not on the e-mail list, then I encourage you to SIGN UP .
This little booklet is a hoot! All the dirty laundry of Dearing is aired. We have murders and fights and people disappearing never to be seen again. The author was born in 1845. The book was first printed in 1929. The stories are told from the author's point of view and have been embellished a bit. Storytelling doesn't get any better than this. Believe it or not, there is quite a bit of good genealogical information woven through this book. For $1.50, you can't go wrong.
