The only information I have on the McKay/MacKay family is as follows: William
McKay died in December 1850 and was married to Rebecca Lucy Elon Robertson,
born 1783. Their son was John Felix McKay, born October 21, 1817 at McIntosh
County, Georgia, and was married to Martha Eliza Holt. John and Martha has
a daughter named Isabella Eunice McKay. I am particularly interested in
William and his parents and grandparents--when they arrived in Georgia.
Thank you

I am looking for the family of John Holmes (1808 - 1835). He died in Macon,
Bibb, GA at the age of 27, husband of Caroline E Bivins, the father of John
CHAMPNEYS Holmes (b. 1834) and Edward Bivins Holmes (b. 1835). He was the
Teller of the Macon branch of the Bank of DARIEN and his obituary stated
that he came into Macon 'as a stranger' a few years prior to his death.
There was mention of the opening of the Bank of Darien in a book which
stated "... In 1824, a busy year, Darien's bank opened a branch at Macon...Holmes
and Wallis were ready with an excellent boat to transport cotton downstream
to Darien."
In Darien around that time (Dr.) James Holmes lived with his family. He
was born in Sunbury in 1804 and died in 1883. He was the PIERCE BUTLER Family's
doctor. I believe Pierce Butler planted rice on Champneys Island near Darien.
(There was also in the late 1700's, a John CHAMPNEYS who was a rice planter
who lived in Charleston SC). James Holmes's first son (and godson of Pierce
Butler) was Lt. Pierce Butler Holmes mortally wounded at the Wilderness
in 1864.
James Holmes wrote some memoirs of Darien - Dr. Bullie's Notes. He married
Susan Olivia Clapp, a Bostonian teaching in McIntosh County. His father
was a James Holmes and his mother was Mary KELL Holmes - a grand-daughter
of John MCINTOSH MOHR. James Holmes (Sr) worshipped at Midway Church, Liberty
Co, Georgia where 'his relative' Abiel Holmes (father of Oliver Wendell
Holmes) 'tended his flock'.
I was born and live in the UK and John Holmes was my ggGrandfather. I have
located the Kell, Holmes, Butler, and Spalding (a founder member of the
bank of Darien and also related to the Kell/McIntosh) families in the 1850
census but do not have access to earlier information.
I would appreciate any help in finding a link between John Holmes and
Darien. I would guess he was the son of James Holmes/Mary Kell Holmes and
(Dr.) James Holmes was his brother. As John Holmes named his first son John
CHAMPNEYS Holmes, was there a marriage between a Holmes and a Champneys
in McIntosh/Liberty around 1800? (I can't find one, although there are several
early Holmes marriages listed in Midway.) How was Champneys Island where
Pierce Butler farmed, named?
Thanks for your time in reading this. I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting
your site on several occasions and will look forward in the future to visiting
your county.

Joseph Alexander Young, born about 1884, died 27 April 1932 in Long County.
His death certificate says that his father was Joe Young, born in Townsend,
Ga. Mother was Mary Ryals also born in Townsend, Ga.
I pulled the 1850 census for McIntosh today. The only Joseph Young I found
was age 2 at the time his parents were George and Caroline Young. I am not
sure if I am on the right track or not. I do know that my great grandfather
married Lilla Leona Maulden. After her death, he married Alma Sallet.
