Will of George C. McLain, Murray Co, GA
(1815 - 1888)

I, George C. McLain, a resident of the State and County aforesaid,, being of sound mind and memory, do hereby make, publish, and deliver this to be my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and making said, any former Will by at any time heretofore made, and after a decent interment of my body, I dispose of my earthly goods in the following order.

1st: I order and direct my executors as soon after my decease as practicable, to pay off and discharge all debts due and liabilities that may exist against me at the time of my decease.

2nd: I give to my son Thomas, twenty dollars out of a fifty I hold against George F. Sinder and my said son Thomas which is to be his until distributed share of my estate.

3rd: I will that all my property consisting of land, stock, farming tools, house-hold and kitchen furniture, be sold as the law directs, and all debts due me be collected as soon as possible, and equally divided between my heirs, ie, My son Hugh White McLain; my son Isaac W. McLain; my daughters Charity Jordan, Melvonia F. Sparks, my son George C. McLain, my daughter Susanah Fox, and my daughter Nancy J. Fox.

4th: I will that my daughter Nancy J. Fox be allowed one year support out of my estate as a compensation for her care for me in my last days, to be set apart by the appraisers of my estate.

5th: I hereby appoint and institute my son Isaac M. McLain, and my esteemed friend M. M. Bates, my Executors, whom I hope will faithfully execute this my last Will and Testament. In writing whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name, this 23 day of September in the year of our Lord, Eighteen Hundred and Eighty Seven.

Will of William M. McLain, Murray Co, GA
(1827 - 1858/1860)

I, William M. McLain, of said Murray county being weak and diseased in body, but of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make, ordain, and publish this my last Will and Testament hereby making any former will made by me, that is to say.

Item 1: I commend my soul to God who gave it, trusting for salvation to the merits of a crucified and risen Savior - My body I desire to be buried in a decent Christian like manner.

Item 2: I direct that all my just debts be paid by my executives hereafter appointed.

Item 3: I devise to my mother Mary McLain during her natural life, the farm on which I live, consisting of half of lots of land numbers one hundred and eighty-two and one hundred & eighty-three of the ninth district, and third section of said county. The remainder in said farm, after the expiration of my mothers life estate, I devise to my sisters Mary L. McLain and Martha E. McLain, thus heirs, and assigns forever in fee simple.

Item 4: I bequest to my said two sisters all the interest I may be intitled to at my mothers death in & to all the Negroes now in the possession of my mother.

Item 5: I bequest into my mother during her natural life and at her death to my said two sisters above named, all property of every character in possession or expecting, real and personal, to them, then heirs, and assigns forever in fee simple.

Item 6: I hereby make note and expariet my matter, given under my hand and seal this 2nd day of July, 1858. W. M. McLain

Will of William A. Latch, Murray Co, GA

I, William A. Latch of said county being of advanced age but of sound & disposing memory, knowing that I must shortly depart this life, decree it proper both as respect myself and shoes who could claim my bounty upon my earnings, that I should make same disposition of the property with which a kind providence hath blessed me.

I do therefore make this my last Will and Testament. Item 1: I will and direct that my body be buried in a decent and Christian like manner, suitable to circumstances in life and that my just debts, if any, be paid as speedily as possible, and do hereby trust that my soul shall rest with God who gave it, through our blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Item 2: I will, bequeath, and divide to my beloved wife Ollie A. Latch, my home place which contains 50 rods off of the east side of lot No. 126 and one undivided half interest in lot No. 91, an undivided interest in 40 acres in south east corner of lot of land No. 127. All of said land being in the 9th Dist and 3 Section of said county of Murray and State of Georgia which lands & home place are to be controlled exclusively to my said wife during her natural life time for her support.

Item 3: I will and direct that my wife Ollie A Latch have the proceeds of my stock in the Muray County Milling Co. which is 5 shares of one hundred dollars per share, what ever the present are, these shares are, that it be turned over to my wife during her life time.

Item 4: I have heretofore deeded to my oldest daughter Ollie Savannah Latch/ Keith 40 acres of land off of the north east corner of lot of land No. 59 in the 9 Dist & 8 Section of Murray County, GA. And to my daughter Sarah Joseph Coffee, formly, Latch, 40 acres of land off of the west side of lot of land No 59 in the 9 Dist & 3 Section of Murray County, GA. And to my son William Z. Latch, an undivided half interest in 75 acres, more or less, of lot of Land No. 312 and 313 lying in the 26 Dist and 2 Section of Murray County GA. And an undivided half interest in Lot No. 162 in the 9th Dist and 3 Section of Murray County, GA. And I have heretofore deeded to Mary Jane Clements, formly Latch, 140 acres of Lot of Land No. 92 and 44 acres, more or less, off of the west side of lot of land No. 126, all in the 9 Dist & 3 Section of Murray County, GA. And also heretofore, to my daughter G. F. N. Latch all of lot of land No. 90 and 40 acres off of the east side of lot of land No. 92 and 44 acres, more or less, off of lot of land No. 126, all in the 9 Dist and 3 Section of Murray County, GA.

Item 5: I will and direct that all the remainder of my land that has not been previously deeded by me in the 26 and 2 Section of Murray County, GA be sold at public auction and the money received be spent to pay my Dr. bills and burial expenses, including a monument on my grave. The remainder to be equally divided between my wife Ollie A. Latch, Olive Savannah Keith, William Z. Latch and my two daughters Mary J. Clements & Fannie Latch, they to receive 1/5 each of this remainder.

Item 6: I also will and direct that my wife have all my house hold and kitchen furniture. Also all the stock that I have on hand of my death together with all the wagons and buggies, farming implements on hand if any, until her death, at which time all the lands and other property I have given my wife including milling stock is to divided as follows.

Item 7: I will that my daughter-in-law Mrs. Georgia Latch receive five dollars and her daughter Mrs. Lillie Latch Davis receive twenty five dollars /25.00/ and my daughter Sarah Joseph Latch Coffee, deceased, children receive as follows. Lillie Coffee Richards, Georgia Coffee Haggard, William W. Coffee, Elizabeth Coffee, Florida Coffee, Johnnie Coffie receive five dollars each /5.00/. The remainder after these have been paid off to be divided equally between my four children to wit. Olive Savannah Keith, William Z. Latch, Mary Jane Clements and Fannie Latch. I will and direct that my wife Ollie A. Latch be appointed executor of this my last Will and Testament. W. A. Latch, November 16, 1907
