Agnes, Louise and Carolyn

These three young ladies were the daughters of Clyde May Maxey and Asa Gwynn Autry. All were born in Oconee
County in the Eastville, Watkinsville, and High Shoals area. Picture was taken in 1919.
Agnes Autry was born August 27, 1908. Married to John Arthur Redman. She had no children. Died in about 1965.
Louise Elizabeth Autry was born Sept 27, 1906. Married Joe A Brown in 1926. She had three sons and two
daughters. She was divorced from Joe in 1936. She married James Carnes in 1943. She died Feb. 5, 1992
and is buried at Union Christian Church. Near Eastville, GA. She lived in Atlanta from 1942 until her death.
She was active in church affairs and was affectionaly known by all as “Granny Carnes”. Carolyn Autry was born
Jan 21, 1911. Married to Thomas “Tom” Bowden June 17, 1933. They adopted the youngest son of her sister
Louise in 1935 when the son was an infant. Carolyn and Tom owned and operated several businesses in Athens.
They owned a home on South Lumpkin St. in Athens and a farm on Hog Mountain Rd. in Oconee County.
They provided sanctuary to two other sons of Louise when times were hard. Carolyn and Tom were active in
the First Christian Church in Athens and Union Christian Church. Carolyn died June 30, 1978 and is buried at Union
Christian Church. More about the
