Ezekiel was believed to have been born in Ireland or Virginia around 1732 and died,
supposedly in Lexington, Oglethorpe County, GA after July 10, 1800. He was married to
Sarah Clements in VA. His will was in will book "A", page 97-8 1703-1807 and was
recorded the 10th day of July, 1800.
Their children were Charles, Mary, Jacob, Ruth Nancy, Margaret, Thomas, Ezekiel, Jr.
and Edith.
He was one of the first elders of the Beth Salem Presbyterian Church at its first home.
He was said to have been buried in the Newton Chapel Churchyard by another family
researcher, but I was unable to find anyone in Lexington during the time I was there in
1989 who had ever heard of the Newton Chapel Churchyard.
He had grandsons, Benjamin Franklin Gilham and Thomas Gilham who carried on a
correspondence with a cousin in Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois. I have transcripts
of about 14 of these letters. Many of Ezekiel's descendants joined Ezekiel's half brothers
in their migration to this part of the country where they settled about 15 miles or so
northeast of downtown St. Louis, Missouri.
Any information you could provide, especially as to his date of death and location of
his grave would be helpful. As he was a Revolutionary soldier, I would like to pursue
having his grave marked by the government if it can be found.
Respectfully,
Herbert J. Gillham

I am searching for information on the JACKSON brothers who fought in the Rev. War and
moved to the Greene County area of Georgia. Since Oglethorpe Co was later formed from
Greene County, I thought I would check this county too. They were uncles of Andrew
JACKSON. An article in a Greene County History book has an article from a local paper
describing a visit from General Andrew JACKSON to visit his uncles to pay them for running
off squatters from his land. My husband is descended from one of these uncles whose
descendants then moved to nearby Alabama. They intermarried with the WOODS, HALL, and
HAYNES families near Roanoke in Randolph County.

guardian of the two oldest, Frederick and Rolan/Roland/Rowland. In 1801, Seth became

of the name, it is confusing. It is known that the family name has been recorded as both
HUTSON and HUDSON. Please contact earphoto@gonetgo.com and God Bless.

ARNOLD Jim DeLoach 25

Georgia in about1870. He was married to Manda (surname unknown) and was the father of
James M. ARNOLD who was born in 1869. I know that James is buried at Salem Church Cemetery
with his wife Mary Ellen TIDWELL. I am trying to establish Steven's parents names, his
actual birth and death dates, and where he is buried. Manda's maiden name and
birth/death/burial data would be helpful. I understand Manda is buried in a small cemetery
(Maxwell's?) near the intersection of US 78 and Salem Road outside of Lexington, Georgia.
I have no idea if that is true or not.
1870 census as living near Maxey's with his wife, Manda. From the census, I know he was
born about 1835 and was married to Manda, surname unknown, born about 1844. I believe she
is buried in a small cemetery near the intersection of Salem Church Road and US 78,
perhaps known as Maxwell's Cemetery, but I have no idea where Stephen is buried. I am
trying to establish his and her birthplace and dates, and who his father was.
OGLETHORPE COUNTY DEED Pamela
Farmer-Scott 23 Feb 1998
Is there someone who would go to the Oglethorpe County Courthouse and copy a deed for
me? I will be happy to pay for their time and copies. There is no research involved as I
know the book and page numbers. I am trying to assist someone with their SAR application
and this deed is needed for documentation. The gentleman in question is quite ill and time
is truly of the essence. Any assistance you could offer will be greatly appreciated.

I am searching for the ancestors and descendents of Elijah PONDER. Last found Elijah
PONDER on the 1860 Fayette County, Alabama census with wife Mahalia, and children: Mary,
Finas, Richard, Martha, Emily, and Columbus. There seems to be two Elijah's- one Elijah is
the son of Abner PONDER of Oglethorpe County, Georgia and the other Elijah is possibly the
son of a William PONDER. Has anyone out there sorted out these two Elijah PONDER's?

BURFORD, BULLOCK, BRADLEY Fred Bradley 20
Feb 1998
I am seeking information on former residents of Oglethrope County, Georgia. Philip H.,
and Agnes BULLOCK(BULLOCH) BURFORD moved from Oglethrope County prior to 1830 to DeKalb
County, Georgia. Philip, and Agnes had the following children, maybe more.
(1) Matilda M.S. BURFORD married John L. BRADLEY,
(2) Mildred T. BURFORD married Robert M. GOWER of Gwinnett County, Georgia
(3) Clarissa BURFORD married John Robert McCURDY of Dekalb County, Georgia
(4) Sarah BURFORD married Henry A. COLEMAN,
(5) Susan Mitchell BURFORD married William Russell AYERS.
I am also trying to make a connection with a Philip Terrel BURFORD a former
Revolutionary War soldier, who is buried in DeKalb County. I believe that he might have
been the father of Philip H. BURFORD, because one Philip H.'s daughters Mildred had the
middle name of Terrel. I would appreciate any information/help on the the families of
BURFORD, BULLOCK(BULLOCH), BRADLEY, GOWER, COLEMAN, AYERS and McCURDY.
I will be happy to share the information that I have on these families, though very
limited.
Thanks and Best Wishes,
Fred Bradley.

CHANNELL Benjamin E. Channell
31 Jan 1998
I'm Benjamin Earl Channell in Fort Worth, Texas in search of Military records on George
CHANNELL. George came to Georgia from Virginia at the close of the Revolutionary War. He
is said to have taken part in that war on the side of the colonies, but his military
record has not been found to date. He sent for Mary BARNES, his Virginia sweetheart, and
she is said to have traveled to Oglethorpe County, Georgia, with families named BARNES,
COLEMAN, ALLEN, and many others. Tradition says that George CHANNELL and Mary BARNES were
married in Oglethorpe County Georgia in 1780.
George CHANNELL, presumably the first of the name in Georgia, made a fortunate draw on
January 23rd, 1822. He was number 213 on the list of Grantees in the 11th District, Monroe
County, Georgia. (Page 94, History of Upson County Georgia Nottingham and Hannah)
It is known that George CHANNELL and Mary (BARNES) CHANNELL had, among other children
whose names are not known, Isam, Hudson, Littleton, and Harmon C. CHANNELL.
Like so many Pre-Revolutionary families the CHANNELL family is very hard to trace. Any
authentic records on any branch of the CHANNELL family that anyone can send me will be
most deeply appreciated.

"The Lexington Echo" Steve
Cunningham 18 Jan 1998
Hi,
Some time ago, one of my relatives found an old clipping from the Lexington Echo, in
Oglethorpe County. I wondered if these old newspaper files were around? I have my family
back to about 1810 on Oglethorpe County, but have hit a dead end. They emigrated from
Virginia about then, to Georgia. Maybe, if I could find my Great Grandfather's Obituary
notice, as well as a couple of more, it would help. Let me know if you can help.

siblings or parents may have been. I'm at a standstill with my tree until I can clear some
