HAWK (07/13/00)

I am chasing a HAWK lineage that was first evidenced in Georgia in 1784 Washington County. Most of this lineage ended up in Jasper County by 1820, but by 1890 the Jasper group had all but vanished. A recent trip to the courthouse in Monticello may provide a clue. On 12 Nov 1889 land that formerly belonged to plantation owner Seaborn HAWK of Jasper County, was sold with the following people of Randolph County listed as grantors. I believe they had inherited this property as descendants of Seaborn: "Thos F. HAWK, Luginia B. BOON, Permelia JONES, Seaborn PHILLIPS of Randolph County." I know that this Seaborn PHILLIPS is Seaborn HAWK's nephew by way of Emala HAWK's marriage to Joel C. PHILLIPS. (Seaborn P. served in the WTBTS and I have transcribed a battlefield letter from him to his uncle Seaborn on my web site.) And these HAWK desc. may have been in Stewart and/or Webster counties at various times. There is also a list of HAWK grantors from Spalding County listed in the deed transfer, so the HAWK line apparently broke into at least two groups at this time. I would appreciate any further information on these people.

Seeking ancestors and descendants of the following family. This family was from Randolph Co. GA. Some of the children moved to Early Co GA. after they married.

Jonas E. TEMPLES (1818-1892) married Caroline SHEFFIELD (1835-1895)

  • Samuel TEMPLES b 1854
  • Bethana TEMPLES b 1857
  • Lydia TEMPLES b. 1859
  • James W. TEMPLES b. 1860
  • Jonas L. TEMPLES b 1862
  • Elizabeth Virginia TEMPLES b 9/10/1865
  • William C. TEMPLES b 1866
  • Jonathan R. TEMPLES b 1868
  • Alec TEMPLES b 1871
  • Susan TEMPLES b 1873
  • Dora L. TEMPLES b 1875
  • Jessee H. TEMPLES b 1878

I think Jonas may be related to either Absolem F. TEMPLES or Andrew TEMPLES. Both of these men lived in Randolph Co when Jonas would have been underage.

Caroline may be related to Andrew because Andrew married Mary SHEFFIELD 1/6/1809 Montgomery Co. GA or George SHEFFIELD who married Polly TEMPLES 1810 in Montgomery Co. GA but lived in Early for a time.
