The John C. "Quinn" who is cited with the firm of "Quinn & Rigby steam plaining mills", is in fact John C. Quein 1823-1890. I am a direct maternal Quein descendant, John C. Quein was my g.g. uncle. I recently wrote to the E. Cent. Georgia Reg. Library and they fowarded to me copies of the 1859 and 1861 directories. The 1861 directory lists John C. Quein Carpenter, h. 389 Broad. That is the same address listed in the earlier 1859 directory. They are one in the same.

John C. Quein was born in Honey Brook Twp. Chester Co. Pa. s/o James Quein and Elizabeth Klingaman. He re located to Georgia sometime in the 1850's, or perhaps earlier. He married Frances Branch 1836-1868, who was born in Abbeville S.C. d/o Samuel Branch and Elizabeth Wilson Branch. After the death of Samuel Branch in 1840, Elizabeth Wilson Branch re married John E. Navy, who is also cited in the 1859 Augusta directory.

This Quein family (3 young sons b. Georgia) left Augusta sometime during the Civil War. They moved to Urbana, Ohio. John and Frances Quein are buried in Oakdale Cemetery in Urbana. The name Quein is pronounced as "Queen" Scots-Irish, and Methodist.

Contributed by James H. Turner.
