Update: May 1, 2004
The Hillcrest Cemetery Memorial Association, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has become much more active in the past year. Since Fall 2003, we have cleared overgrowth from most of the cemetery, and will be providing mowing services as often as possible, depending on contributions. We have determined that there are about 8,000 people buried in the 16-acre cemetery. At this time, our primary objective is to clear overgr We are an all-volunteer organization in an economically depressed area from which many families with loved ones in the cemetery have moved away. Fundraising is slow, and this is a large cemetery. We are committed to the tasks we have taken on, and plan to see them through, although progress is expected to be slow. At this point, about 98% of graves are easily accessible. Contact information: Hillcrest Cemetery Memorial Association, Inc. Kevin L. Update : May 28, 2003
We were at Hillcrest Cemetery a couple of days ago and it is worse than ever!! The grass was over waist high in most areas. There was trash and most of the cemetery is so overgrown that you can't even see the markers. There are several that are sinking. My sister and I live in Texas and don't get a chance to be here often. We are upset that this cemetery is in such poor condition and have already contacted as many people as we can to complain and will continue when we return to Houston next week. We will be checking your websites for future updates. Thanks!
