This is a general question about the census records for Tattnall Co. I am doing a research project for class at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. I want to know why the population shrunk after 1890 and continued to shrink for the next 60 years. Any help or information anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated and noted in our references. |

(think NC). Need the name of Patience's husband. There is a James Saturday in Warren Co. NC 1818 on a Tax List. Think the Saturdays could be Native Americans. Pembroke W. and Sarah (Duggar) Williams from Bryan Co, GA seem to have moved to Tattnall Co by the 1900 census. In 1910, they are in Toombs Co. Is the "Haw Pond" area listed as Tattnall, 1900, part of the western area that became Toombs Co in 1905? Can anyone tell me where, exactly, Haw Pond is? By 1910 they are living in Lyons City (Toombs) and I'm wondering if they didn't "move" at all...just were redistricted into the new county line. The militia districts, however, are different for each. |

I have the birth of Littleto Benjamin Boyd as 22 Dec 1822 in Lowndes Co., GA. His father, Bani Boyd, married second Sarah Collins on 15 Feb 1821 which make Littleton a child of the second wife but all records I have found show him to be a child of the first marriage to Nancy Bowen. The Tattnall County marriage records for 15 Feb 1821 that I found are typed so I know they are not the original record. It is my belief that some one typing the record misread 1827 for 1821. Both of my grandparents were born and reared in Tattnall County. My Grandfather was Robert M. Jenkins and my grandmother Agnes Tatum. Her mother was a Surrency (Louisa). I have been able to track quite a bit of the Surrency family and some of the Tatums. I have found virtually nothing at all on the Jenkins side of the family. About all I can add is that my Grandfather Jenkins dad was also a Robert. My great-grandfather, Jesse C. Tatum, was a preacher and a farmer and Surrency, Ga. was named after a family member. Basically, I'm looking for anything I can find. I understand there is a Tatum family reunion on a regular basis but I have idea when. Anyone that can help me out will be greatly appreciated. I am trying to find out about the Kennedy family. I think they lived in Collins and maybe Soloman Kennedy was a Baptist minister in the area in the middle or early 1800's. He and his wife had 12 children and so I feel there must be someone who has information about this family. I know one of their sons was a doctor in Collins or Reidsville and they attended Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Maybe Soloman was a minister at that church, I don' know for sure. Thank you for your help and I look forward to hearing from someone with information. |

When was the 1st newspaper system implemented in Tattnall Co., GA? Are there archives available to the public for research? Hopeful on-line since I live in VA Was there a newspaper in Tattnall called the Reidsville, Ga Enterprise? I found on the newspaperarchives.com several interesting articles pertaining to Tattnall I hope that ya'll may also find interesting... I'm particular interested in locating whether there was an article written for John Dawson HUNT, Sr., who was murdered in a presumed robbery. He was beat up and left in his own barn that was set a fire. I have his death cert. stating cause of death: questionable homicide "burned in structure fire"; residence: Altanoha, Tattnall Co., GA, dated: Dec 19, 1934. He was married to Eva Augusta "maiden name: FLOWERS" Should anyone in the vicinity of Reidsville should find a newspaper clipping I would be grateful if a copy could be sent to me. **** This clipping gave me a tickle because my mother went peach picking a few days ago in Reidsville... The Atlanta Constitution--Atlanta, GA--Aug 18, 1882 "Mr. Redden Yeomans picked a peach from his orchard, a few days ago, that measure nine and a half inches in circumference." Thank you, Catherine |

I am looking for any and all Revells/Revels and Tuckers who were in Tattnall County Specifically the family I am looking for are Jeremiah Revels and his wife Keziah Tucker. They were there in the 1820s and later. I think they both left the area, but could have some relatives buried there. Supposedly they were the parents of Tabitha; William E; John B; Edmond; Betty; Henry; Kizzie/Keziah; Mary and Patsy or Nancy. I know that William E, John B. and the daughter Keziah are buried in Florida, but perhaps the other children died in Tattnall County before the family left. Jeremiah and his wife Keziah were born about 1800 and married in 1820 in Warren County and Jeremiah received land in a lottery in Tattnall county in 1827, but he was there before that as we have other records of him there in 1824. There are a John Revels and an Edmond Revels who were arrested and tried for hog stealing in Tattnall counties in 1830s. I am doubt they are the sons of Jeremiah and Keziah as they were too young, but they could be brothers of Jeremiah. There is also a Jeremiah Revels who was charged of being the father of two children by Nancy Coward of Tattnall county. I don't know if this is the same as Jeremiah. I assume it is. I am trying to tie the above children to Keziah and Jeremiah and I am also trying to find the siblings and parents of Keziah and Jeremiah Thanks Leslie Vaughn |
