Died
At the residence of his parents at 1 o’clock on Friday morning the 7th inst.,
occurred the death of Mr. W.P. Russ, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Russ. Percy
Russ, as he was familiarly known was born June 9th, 1862, and was
consequently in the 31st year of his age. For several months he had been much
troubled with an affection of the lungs, and despite the earnest efforts of kind
friends and relatives with the assistance of the best medical skill in Georgia,
every effort proved unavailing, and like the dew drop of the morning or the
flower he gently passed away, and while loving hearts knew that the end was
near, no one was prepared to accept the sad summons. He was loved by all who
knew him, and as the sad news is carried from heart to heart his loss will be
felt. He as one that was never led astray by the evil influence of life,
but always sought the best of company and tried ever to wield an influence for
good over his associates. He was honest, upright and pure; in fact he was one
of the best young men that has ever been raised in our community, and his loss
will be sadly felt. He leaves a devoted wife, two little children, father,
mother, sister, besides many friends and relatives to mourn their loss who have
the sympathy of this entire community. The funeral services were conducted by
Rev. Dr. H.J. Harvey of Macon, at the residence of Mr. W.O. Russ on Friday
evening and his remains were laid to rest in the cemetery in Butler. We are
pleased to state that Mr. Russ left his family in pleasant circumstances –
unencumbered by debt, and by industry and close economy left
them some property and an insurance policy of $5000 on his life.

Died
At his home in Daviston in Taylor County on Wednesday the 19th inst., occurred
the death of Mr. W.H. Helms, one of the truest and best citizens of this
county. Mr. Helms was about 63 years of age and a gentleman estimated
far below his real worth. He had always led a quiet and unassuming life, but
his thoughts were deep and his intellect far above the average of mankind. He
was a member of the Methodist church at Prattsburg for more than 40 years
and whose Christian life and influence will be sadly missed in the community in
which he lived. Mr. Helms had been in very feeble health for several months and
his death, though sad was no surprise. He leaves a devoted wife, five
children besides many friends and relatives to mourn their loss. His remains
were interred in the Sterns’ family burying ground on Thursday. The bereaved
family have the sympathy of many friends.
