Death of Mr. I.R. Eubanks
We regret to learn of the death of Mr. Rhett Eubanks, which sad event occurred
at his father’s residence in the eastern portion of this county on Wednesday
morning the 7th inst., after a short but painful illness. His death was
a great shock to his family and friends as he was in his usual health up to a
few hours of his death and a gentleman of fine physical manhood. Mr. Eubanks
was a son of Mr. Isaac C. Eubanks and was in the 26th year of his age. He was a
member of the Methodist church and lived a consistent Christian life. His
remains were interred in the cemetery near Crowell’s church, Rev. Jason Shirah
conducting the services surrounded by a large number of relatives and
friends. The bereaved family have our sympathy.

The sad death of Rhett Eubanks occurred at the home of his father on the Lockett
place last Wednesday morning. He had been suffering the after affects of the
lagrippe for some time, and complained of pains in the chest on
the morning named and went to bed, asking that the doctor be sent for to relieve
him, but before the physicians arrived he had died, of (we suppose) congestion
of the lungs. A very large crowd attended the burial services at
Crowell, Rev. J. Shirah officiating. He was much beloved by all, being one of a
family of model boys, who are noted for their uprightness and their moral and
religious disposition. They sympathy of the entire neighborhood goes out to the
bereaved family.

Death of Mr. Wash Scott
After we had gone to press last Tuesday we received the intelligence of the
death of Mr. N.W. Scott, which occurred at his home a few miles west of Butler
early Tuesday morning, after a long illness, but the information was received
too late for the western mail, hence it is re-published in this issue that his
friends may all know of his death. Mr. Scott was in the 56th year of his age, a
quiet but persevering farmer and prepared well for his family. He has just
completed the erection of a handsome residence near Scott’s Station but had not
moved into it. Mr. Scott leaves a devoted companion, a large family of children
besides many friends to mourn their loss. His remains were interred in the
family burying ground near his home on Wednesday, the funeral services being
conducted by Elder J.G. Murray.

Death of Mrs. Stokes
Our community was made to feel sad at the announcement of the death of Mrs.
Tabitha J. Stokes, which sad event occurred at the residence of Mr. J.W. McCrary
on Wednesday morning the 14th inst. after a short but painful illness. Mrs. Stokes was 61 years of age, a member of the Missionary Baptist church and a
lady thoroughly consecrated to the service of the Master. She was loved by all
who knew her; her labors both in church and in society will be sadly
missed. She was the mother of Mrs. J.W. McCrary and Mr. J.G. Stokes, besides
several other children and many friends and relatives to mourn their loss. Her
remains were carried to Buena Vista and interred in the cemetery at that
place by the side other loved ones on Thursday.

Mr. Persons Williamson Dead
Mr. Persons Williamson, died at his home in Butler at 10 o’clock on Wednesday
night the 21st inst. He had been in feeble health for more than twelve months,
and his death though sad was no surprise to his family and friends. On
Saturday night previous to his death he became affected with a derangement of
the mind and apparently lost his sight, from which he never recovered or spoke a
word, and all that friends and physicians could do was to no avail.
Mr. Williamson was about 50 years of age, and during his life he had held
several positions of honor and trust, and although he led a checkered career yet
he possessed a kind and generous disposition. His remains were interred in
the cemetery in Butler Thursday evening surrounded by a large number of
sympathizing relatives and friends, the funeral services being conducted by
Elder J.G. Murray.

since done a splendid mercantile business. He was about 24 years of age, a

Monday evening February 26th the hearts of many friends of Walter Parr,
were made sad by the announcement of his death near Fickling. He was 19 years
of age and had been in bad health for a long time, but had recently had the
Grippe to which disease he succumbed. He was a good boy and much loved by his
numerous schoolmates and had the highest regard of his teacher. Having been his
teacher for several years we speak truthfully, when we say his
example was worth a great deal in the school room. He had a bright mind, having
at one time learned the entire multiplication table in one afternoon’s study,
never having to refer to it afterwards. He was interred at the family burial
ground, Rev. H.T. Mosley officiating.
