At his father's home near Carsonville, at 11 o'clock am on Monday the 7th inst.,
occured the death of Dr. James M. Gostin, after a patient illness of
several weeks.

Mrs. Sarah A. Mathews, aged 62 years, died at the residence of her son,
Mr. F. Mathews at 11:30 o'clock on Wednesday morning, the 9th inst. after an
illness of three weeks. She was a most estimable Christian lady, a member
of the Methodist church and for many years a resident of this county, residing
near Daviston. Mrs. Mathews was a sister of Prof. A.S. Wallace, and also
of the late Col. W.S. Wallace of Butler. Her remains were brought to
Howard on Thursday and interred in the cemetery near that place.
