A Tribute of Respect
Mrs. Gracie Garrett died at the home of her son Mr. R.C. Garrett near
here in Taylor County Wednesday morning March 23 at 9:10 o’clock. Mrs. Garrett
would have been eighty years old had she lived to her next birthday. She was a
noble Christian woman, admired and loved by friends and relatives as very few
people are. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist church and had been for
many years. She was always true to her religion and I heard her pastor say she
always bore the hardest burden without the slightest murmur. She was buried at
the family burying ground Thursday about 10 o’clock a.m. The funeral was
conducted by Rev. W.W. Riner, who paid a most loving and worthy tribute to a
noble woman. Mrs. Garrett leaves four sons and two daughters with a host of
friends
to mourn her loss. Seldom do people bear the record that Mrs. Garrett did – she
raised a family of children who are an honor to the county and many were the
sympathetic tears shed with them around the bier of their mother. Mrs. Garrett
was loved by all who knew her and as her soul takes its flight back to the God
who gave it we feel and know that the world has been made a better place by her
having lived in it.
