
The Midway Baptist Church was founded in 1873 according to a note in the minutes of the old church. . A partial list of charter members includes FRAMKLIN PETERMAN, BENJAMIN GAULTNEY, BRANTLEY MOSELEY, JOHN PETERMAN and JIM GOODWIN. According to the first roll in the oldest minute book of 1890, some of following names were mentioned; KILBY, HANCOCK, SPILLERS, BYRD, GREATHOUSE, GAULTNEY, MOSELEY, PETERMAN, GOODWIN, PERKINS, WADSWORTH, PARKER, BICKLEY and SHOUPE. The church has had few pastors through its long history. The Rev. TONY GAULTNEY began preaching there in 1891 and pastored there for more than 50 years. Other pastors listed in the records include, Rev. J.H. STANFORD, who served until July 1955. Rev. E.H.DUNN who served from September 1955 to January 1962, Rev. H.E. WHITLEY who served from Februaruy 1962 to October 1968 and the Rev. BEN GUINED. The Rev. RANNIE GAULTNEY served as interim pastor from October 1968 until August 1970. The only other names mentioned in the minutes include those of the Rev. PAUL MOSELEY who preached for the church for a time when there was no pastor and a JOHN HELMS.
