
A brief history of New Hope Church and a statement of the principles for which it stands
On the thirteenth day of September 1829, a small group of Baptist met at the house of William Mitchell together with a presbytery called by them for the purpose of constituting themselves into a church. Those presenting themselves at the time were brothers, William Underwood, Thomas Pickard, Thomas Bloodworth and Powell Benton and sisters, Martha Underwood, Frances Bloodworth, Elizabeth Newsom and Linney Hale. The presbytery,consisting of elders Benjamin Bateman, Henry Bell and Isaac Norris, having found them orderly and orthodox constituted them into a body in the Apostolic Order. This done and assigned the 13th day of September 1829.
The church had no regular pastor until 1835 when Bro. Bowden accepted the call of the church, serving until 1839.
