Utilizing this Taylor County Site

Here's some tips about researching in Georgia which may help! I welcome others!

Information concerning Taylor County genealogical research is stored in several places. This means that just one search engine will not find everything. Look in Neighboring Counties

Look closely at the DATE the county was organized and see what counties the land originally was in. Also watch for later divisions, where a new county may have been formed.

Remember that some roads were there even before county lines were drawn, so the pattern of doing business in a county next door may have actually been closer than the County Seat of Taylor County.

Mail Routes often cross county lines. Many of them followed train routes so rural deliveries may even have been from a Post Office in a neighboring county.

Church Associations of the various denominations often met on an annual basis, and these also did not follow county lines.

Marriages often took place in neighboring counties for some of the same reasons.
