This issue featured the old country
stores of Taylor Co., Ga.
In the early to middle 1900's the local country store was where everyone met
to discuss everything from politics to religion and who had the best coon
and rabbit dogs.
The man on the far left in military shirt and pants with boots on is Mr.
Russell who lived in the G.W. Huggins house in Mauk after WWII.
The two dogs on the floor near him belong to him. The man with the birddog
in his lap is Carl L. Turner who married Nettie B. Hill, daughter of W. Greg
and Vashti Cox Hill, and the dog is named Sergeant. The man standing with
overalls on is the manager of the general merchandise store, Brannon
Montgomery, son of Albert and Daisy Montgomery. Brannon married Mary Louise
Purvis, daughter of Walter and Mittie Eldora "Dora" Weeks Purvis. The man
seated on the far right is L.R. "Dock" Pike, owner of the store. His
birddog's name is Nellie. Dock Pike married Ruth Rustin, daughter of Jesse
Lewis and Olivia Ham Rustin.
