John Battles JOHNSON (parent Robert JOHNSON) was born May 1815 in Rutherford County, NC. He died 28 Jun 1900 in Union County, GA.
 
  This from Dillard Ensley: The various census entries list occupation as sawyer, carpenter, farmer.  His grandson Ira, in a fit of rage, when reprimanded for not feeding the horses, picked up a stake and hit him in the head killing him instantly.  Ira went insane.  Nick name  Jackie.

  John Battles married Lois GRIGG on 1836 in UNKNOWN. Lois (parents Woody GRIGG and Leander JOHNSON) was born 1818 in Burke County, NC. She died 11 Jul 1894 in Union County, GA.

1. James Henley JOHNSON was born in Tennessee Valley, Macon, NC.   died in Civil War - 2nd TN Cav. US

Martha Carolyn JOHNSON (parents John Battles JOHNSON and Lois GRIGG) was born 9 Jun 1838 in Tennessee Valley, Macon, NC. She died 23 Sep 1866 in Hiawassee, Towns, GA.
 
  From Dewey Dillard Ensley:        She died of measles during the Civil War, according to Doris Bigger.  Sincer her husband died in the war, her youngest two children were raised by their Uncle John.  Check source of birthdate; does not agree with census and second child of family.  Doris Bigger had 6-9-1835.    Elaine Beck's data places death after Civil War on 9-23 1866.  She also gives birth as 6/9/1838.  Check census  
 
 Martha Carolyn married Peter Gilead LONG on 1853 in Towns County, GA. Peter Gilead (parents Michael LONG and Elizabeth BRYSON) was born 1834 in Cullowhee, Macon, NC. He died 17 Jul 1862 in Richmond, Henrico, VA.
